In 2018, on Earth-199999, Thanos gathered all the Infinity Stones and snapped his fingers. Half of the Universe was promptly dusted, and a third was further killed as a direct consequence of the dusting. Weeks later, Thanos used the Infinity Stones once more and destroyed them - thus destroying the Universe itself.
Stephen Strange saw this, but there was no way to save them or the Universe, no time.

Summary
Mumbo doesn’t think he’ll ever forget the state the Third Life hermits were in when they first came back to Hermitcraft, especially Grian and Scar. The fact they all wanted to go back for round two with Last Life was more a testament to the boredom of functionally immortal players than anything else, but it still concerned Mumbo. What if he wouldn’t be able to help them when they came back this time? What if something happened there that he didn’t know about and couldn’t address?
So, this time, Mumbo decided to go with them. The better he knows what they’ve been through, the better he could help, right?
But paths to the Nether are built out of good intentions, and upon returning from Last Life carrying something that should’ve been left behind, Mumbo is forced to face the terrifying possibility that he’s not the person his friends think he is.
