Summary
Dustin hasn't had his heat since before Eddie Munson died in his arms. This makes plenty of sense - after all, such a trauma would have a devastating impact on any dynamic's natural bodily rhythm. Sure, eighteen months without even a single symptom of heat is probably more than enough reason for Dustin to go the doctor, but he has more important things to worry about.
Then he finds Jake's mutilated corpse at Eddie's grave.
As it turns out, such distress can also trigger the sudden onset of heat. Dustin learns this the hardest way possible.

Summary
15-year-old Vance Hopper is six months out of hell when he's shipped off to his father, who he's neither seen nor spoken to since he was nine. Now stuck in Denver with a dad who's found a new family and has no love for him, his calls to his mom always left unanswered, Vance isn't so sure his survival was worth it.
Even as he finds connection (through no effort of his own) in unlikely places, Vance keeps his walls up and his secrets to himself. No one here knows what was done to him, and he intends to keep it that way.
Unfortunately for him, there's no way to bury the truth. Not when the man who ruined him is still at large.
(Vance Hopper is the only boy taken - and the only one kept. Of course this comes with consequences.)

Summary
The spray of eyes on him is more obvious from this angle, but Arthur doesn’t flinch at feeling unwelcome.
Still, no matter who they’re looking at or for what reason, most people at least have the mind not to stay looking for too long—which is more than Arthur can say for his tablemate, here.

Summary
Good Men aren't placed into the world–they are the result of cause and effect. Learning to balance what they know in life and how they use it.
Arthur can't bare the thought of being an evil man. Sure, he ain't going to grow to be a good man, he accepted that a while ago. His pa wasn't, so he certainly won't be. Although with the way life's been going lately, he's not to sure how to not be an evil man.
Or: When a robbing goes wrong and Lyle Morgan is brought into jail, a young Arthur Morgan does everything he can to get his pa out and make him proud. All the while two outlaws that were almost robbed keep an eye on the boy while he experiences what life does best.

It was relatively quiet in camp and Hosea only let himself be drawn out of his peaceful afternoon by the curious sight of Arthur riding into camp, followed by a man.
Recruiting had never been Arthur’s job, nor had it ever been anything he showed any interest in. The only person Arthur had ever brought back to camp had been Mary Gillis, and he had never invited her to stay. With that particular commonality in mind, Hosea studied this newcomer as he approached with Arthur.
The two of them had to pass by Hosea on their way to Dutch’s cabin and Arthur paused, his companion falling into step beside him. Up close, Hosea could see that the man’s dark skin held an even deeper shade beneath his eyes, betraying sleepless nights. His black hair was pulled back in a loose tail that stopped well past his shoulders—and, well, if Hosea were a couple decades younger, he could certainly understand why this man was the first person Arthur had brought home since introducing them all to Mary Gillis.
Or: Five times Hosea Matthews suspected something was going on between Arthur and Charles, and the one time he confirmed it.

“Mister Smith,” Arthur said, pinching his nose exasperated, “You don’t need ma permission to sit with horse shit.” He replied gruffly, meeting brown eyes over his journal, “Do whatever ya want, I don’t care.”
Arthur went back to shading his sketch, working on capturing the curve of Boadicea’s tail. In the corner of his eyes, he saw Smith sit on the other side of the barn, settling on sharpening a blade.
“I've told you before," He murmured, "It’s Charles.”
