The way Ryan felt about Matt wasn’t normal. Ryan knew that. If he were to be honest with himself—an extremely rare occurrence, these days—Ryan would admit that he’d felt this way since he and Matt had first met.
Matt had always made Ryan’s heart flutter. Ryan couldn’t help it. Matt was so carefree, so open and eager for the future. Matt was only nineteen and he was the best editor Ryan knew. Matt was creative and smart and funny. He could always make Ryan laugh. Sometimes it felt like Matt was all he had. Like Matt was the only person in the world on his side.
That was why Ryan couldn’t risk messing things up. He couldn't jeopardize his closest friendship by admitting to Matt the way he felt. Especially when he couldn’t even admit to himself how he felt.
So when Ryan was in bed scrolling on Grindr for the second lonely night in a row, he didn’t quite know how to proceed when the twink he’d been texting with sent him a picture with a far too familiar background.

Summary
Tommy often wondered what he did wrong to be born during what was essentially the end of the world. The flooding was one of the first main threats to people’s way of life. Cities had been slowly sinking for a while, now—since long before Tommy was born. The apocalypse had been coming for quite some time, accumulating over years and years of environmental decay. Forest fires, melting ice caps, and increasingly intense hurricanes and storms.
They were safe down here in the bunker, at least. At least here he had Wilbur. Wilbur took good care of him. He kept Tommy safe and healthy and alive. Tommy couldn’t imagine what his world would be like without the man looking over him.
