Alfred F. Jones is the best math student in the school, and Ivan Braginsky is the best writer.
Unfortunately, Alfred can't write to save his life, Ivan can't do algebra to save his, and they both hate each other.
But when their grades start slipping, and their learning specialist forces them to tutor each other, the obvious solution is simple: trade skills, survive the semester, and go back to ignoring each other.
It would probably work better if they didn't keep seeing things about each other that they were never supposed to.
Or: two academic rivals discover that hating each other is much easier from a distance.

The room would have accepted the excuse without a second thought if it wasn't for the fact that America's hair was limp and unkempt, darker at the roots from missed washes. His skin was pale, almost sallow, and the dark circles under his eyes looked like bruises. The very sight immediately sent quiet alarm bells ringing in Japan’s mind.
Their eyes met, just for a second.
America flinched and looked away.
That brief glance said everything. It wasn’t embarrassment. It was guilt.
Canada noticed too. He always did. Chewing on the inside of his cheek, too unsure to speak.

Summary
Matthew sure didn't want to listen to the rest of Arthur's never-ending presentation. Why not just walk out of the meeting? After all, playing hooky is easy when no one notices you in the first place-- except this time, someone did.
Listening to the Brit blab on about nothing at all was ear-grating, but replacing him with an obnoxious Prussian who talked about nothing but how awesome he was didn't seem all that much better.
Peace and quiet would never be Matthew's, but who knew skipping meetings with someone could be a whole lot better than taking lonely naps in the bathroom stall.
Still, that "awesome" talk sure was going to take some getting used to.or
Matthew starts skipping world meetings, and Gilbert decides it's his obligation to come along with him.

And the beast spoke.
“I am not a cat!” the cat said sharply, sitting up just enough to glare at him.
Phainon stared.
“A… talking cat?” he said, incredulously. He leaned a little closer, now able to see the injury more clearly. Blood coated one of the creature’s legs.
“I said I am not a cat,” the creature repeated, its fur bristling irritably.
“You’re adorable,” Phainon remarked, leaning a little closer. “Are you injured?”
After being taken from the humble life he knew and thrust into the imperial palace as a forgotten prince, Phainon Khaslana expects only loneliness, etiquette lessons, and a long list of rules he barely understands. To say Matthew is envious of his brother is an understatement. Alfred basically took what was his life the moment he moved to Canada for university, and the only reason it bothers Matthew at all is because Alfred rubs it in! Good for him, he’s now the star athlete of the school and the hearthrob and the cocky ass cool guy! Matthew is completely forgotten about like usual, damn near ignored, and all thanks to his annoying brother who always finds a way to turn a compliment into an insult. Perfect Alfred and his loser brother, that’s how they’re known now.
But then arrives a pretty transfer student, one with almost lilac eyes and a smile that makes Matthew’s cheeks warm. Of course Alfred tries to take him too.
Matthew won’t let him.
