Kaeya's vision started to malfunction. At first it just lit up every now and then, but after a while, it became a very dangerous and unstable weapon. All of Mondstadt and almost the entirety of Liyue fell victim to it's harshness. The Knights of Favonious rose up, to try and solve this problem, and along the way two people from Liyue join them on their adventures.
Little did they know, it wouldn't be as easy as just talking to him, since some beings have started to manipulate Kaeya, and they are not ready to let him go...

He gripped onto Dain as tightly as possible, hiding his face in his chest. They both didn’t care whether or not the tears falling down his cheeks were soaking Dain’s clothes. All they could do now was embrace each other, one claiming back what was once his, and the other, trying to forget everything. The only thing that could be heard was the sobbing from the golden haired boy.
Dain rubbed circles on his back, “Shh… none of this was your fault… it wasn’t your choice.”

When Aether was separated from his sister, Lumine, he was left alone to fend for himself in a world unknown to him. Still suffering from the loss of his old home, Khaenri’ah— in order to seek revenge, Aether created the abyss order. He is forced to become the cold and merciless prince of the Abyss, eliminating all in his way. Five-hundred years later, Aether reunites with his sister— but she has sided with the enemy. Even though Aether could never forgive himself for the monstrosity he has created, many notice his suffering and are more than willing to forgive him.
(Non-Cannon Story! But still follows most of the lore, I just add my AU into this.)

Is it possible to speed run a relationship right into marriage? Diluc appears to be trying to figure that out, in between blatant attempts to measure him for jewelry, making him at home in the manor trying to convince him to move in and sparing no expense in pampering him, even in public. Kaeya copes with relearning every dynamic in his life now that Diluc is back in it and the whole of Mondstadt is discovering their relationship is more intimate than first appeared. He made the mistake of opening his big mouth and admitting to his desire for romance, and in retaliation it's as though Diluc is making it his life's mission to give him a proper courting despite nothing about their relationship being traditional.
(His insecurity makes a valiant effort to catch up to him. The expensive gifts may or may not make up for the stress a little bit. Even if Diluc's spending habits are going to make Elzer go gray.)

Summary
The sound of the Traveler appearing set everyone on edge. It wasn't that it was a bad surprise—it was just that every time he showed up, things were set to change in unexpected ways. To welcome him back to the game where Kaeya, Diluc, Venti, and Zhongli patiently waited, the landscape returned to idyllic, unmoving silence. There was no trace of the life that took place without him. After all, they had no idea who this kid really was, only that he was able to bring Aether there with him, so they always did their best to stay on script. Obedient beings, all of them. This was the way it was meant to be.
~It's just a game, isn't it...? A little story about what happens when you log off of Genshin Impact, leaving the sentient characters to their own devices.~
