[The apartment you grew up in was pretty messy, but it was never this bad. Maybe it’s because he’s alone and doesn’t have to worry about other people tripping and hurting themselves or whatever– not that the place you grew up in was particularly concerned for your safety

[All the threads of cancer you’d left in their universe that grew to their inability to win the game, and one seemed to be Dave getting fucked over in every imaginable way. An unintended side effect in the ultimate embodiment of every single thing wrong with you.]

Summary
[Dave puts his sword away when he hears you enter, and wipes away the sweat running down his forehead. It’s pretty cold on the meteor, all things considered, and he’s still soaked. You think he’s pushing himself way too hard, but any time you voice your concerns, he shuts you down.]

Summary
See, the thing is, you weren’t born when John ectobiologized you into being, you weren’t born when your meteor crashed down to Earth, and you weren’t born when Bro gifted you your first pair of shades and dubbed you Dave Strider.
No, you were born standing on top of a Houston high-rise at six years old. You were born the first time you held a sword.
You were born holding a sword, and you’re going to die the same way.
(or: Dave, swords, and the role they’ve played in his life.)

SO GOOD. veryyyy good look into dave and his childhood. giving glimpses of shitty things but still feeling like we are only seeing bits and pieces. very well done has definitely had a big influence on how i see dave as a character.

Summary
Maybe it was the lack of his shades, the lack of his stupid beat-up baseball cap, the lack of the permanent frown etched into his face every waking moment of the day, but you’d always be hit with some weird, intangible feeling in the center of your chest, the sudden realization that, when he was out cold like this, he looked small.
Young. Fragile, almost.
Human.

Bookmarker's Notes
might be my favorite exploration of dave ever. gives a very good (yet still subtle and tasteful) look into his trauma (particularly elements people don't explore as much). all of twinprimes' work is amazing and i think this is the best.
