Summary
Will Byers had never had an easy life - the universe hated him; it had to. From neglectful fathers, bullying, kidnapping and possession by an other worldly monster and all the other awful things in his life, ya the universe had to hate him. He's even more sure of that now as he's faced to face with the demon of his nightmares, who you would think would be torturing him right about now.
If you thought that well, you're wrong, because said demon is instead pacing the floor - ranting about how the nickname he was given is "awful" and "hurtful". Ya the universe hates Will Byers.

Will Byers knew what he had to do. There was a reason why he had been taken all those years ago, a reason why he was different. A reason for why his neck would feel cold, why he could look through the eyes of the Demos and control them. Why he could kill them. He had to do this - he no longer could afford to be afraid, and so without looking back he ran.
Mike Wheeler knows he should trust his gut. Knows that when it tightens in fear, when it feels like he had just swallowed a weight - when it feels like something was wrong. He should listen, but he didn't. And now, now he was seriously wishing he did as he watched Will run off into the abyss, leaving him behind.

Fate played its games - they were only pawns in the universes grand game of chest. Perhaps in another universe the battle went differently. Perhaps El defeated the Flayer, perhaps their plan of attacking the beast with their guns and fire worked. Perhaps they were able to escape, having destroyed any and all traces of the upside down behind them. Perhaps in 18 months they would be crossing the stage to graduation, happy and no longer scared.
That wasn't this universe, and that wasn't how the story goes.

“Tamales?” he asks, hand shaking slightly as he takes a drink.
“Yeah!”
Eddie stares at Buck’s smile, at his beautiful, oblivious smile. So. This was Sophia’s endgame. She’s not just here to steal his best friend for herself. She’s here to steal his best friend for herself and marry him and live happily ever after while Eddie watches with a broken heart.

“Are you really flirting with me when I’m trying to check you haven’t damaged that little brain of yours?” Eddie sounded annoyed, but there was the slightest hint of amusement in his voice.“Little brain? It’s a well known scientific fact that kisses make everything better.”
“And in what scientific journal did you read this?” Eddie teased, leaning in closer until their faces were just a few inches apart. Hen was sure she could walk right past them at that moment and they probably wouldn’t notice, but she wasn’t about to test that theory, so she just took a few steps forward, close enough to hear, but far enough as not to be seen.
“The New England Journal of Magic?” Hen could hear the smile in his voice, and it made her chuckle slightly.
“I swear to God…fine, one kiss.” Eddie sighed, closing the gap and pressing his lips to Buck’s softly. “You know we’re gonna get caught one of these days.”
