Summary
Eddie focused his attention on Hen and Karen, so happy and in love, twirling around the makeshift dance floor in their little glowing bubble.
He pointed a finger in their direction, and before thinking about the consequences of his words, Eddie confessed, “I’m that.”
There was a pause beside him, and Eddie knows that Buck knows him, but even that had caused some confusion. “Umm, you’re what? Married?”
“No, obviously.” Eddie took in a steading breath, glanced at Buck but quickly averted his eyes again. “Queer– gay, I think.”

Summary
Chimney studies him for a moment. Sounding uncharacteristically sincere, he says, “Eddie’s going to be okay.”
“He almost wasn’t,” Buck replies.
“Shit,” Chimney mutters. He finally lets Buck have his hands back and sits down heavily in the chair next to him. “You can’t think that way, Buck. Close calls—they’ll fuck you up, you know? You’ll spend all your time worrying about something that didn’t happen and miss the significance of the stuff that actually did.”

Summary
It’s the first time anybody has said aloud that they’re not expecting Buck home tonight. It’s the first time anybody has even suggested that it could be days, even weeks before they see him again. If this were anyone other than Chimney, Eddie would be tempted to hit them, start some kind of fight for even insinuating that this isn’t going to be cut-and-dry. But he knows Chim too well — the man knows to hope for the best and prepare for the worst, and he’s no stranger to losing a brother.
or, Buck goes missing without a trace. All that's left behind is his abandoned phone, signs of a struggle, and everybody that cares about him.

"I do that to most of our customers." He replies as he puts the box in the corner, making sure it stays put.
"Yeh but most grump back, he smiles back at you, oh and don't forget the treats he brings you." Helen adds.

Summary
Bobby threw himself into action, he bolted out the door and across the hall barrelling into the restroom and the nearest cubicle. His knees hit the floor with a sickening crack that reverberated up his spine as the contents of his stomach finally made its way to the surface. He retched and heaved until he had nothing left to give then collapsed against the wall beside him resting his head against the cold tile.
His chest heaved and his heart hurt and in a room, somewhere down the hall, a ventilator beeped rhythmically as the man occupying the bed slept.

Summary
Eddie looked over to where Chris was headed, a man holding a clipboard already crouching to meet him. Chris was swooped into the guy’s arms instantly, strong arms wrapping around him; Eddie had no idea what to think.
It was as he got closer that the man stood, Eddie seeing nothing but legs for days. His eyes skimmed over the man, eventually moving up until they landed on his face, eyes as blue as the ocean staring back to him. If that wasn’t enough, the guy had this adorable blotchy mark just above his left eye, his smile lighting up the already bright room.
Before Eddie could compose himself, the guy was moving away from Chris, stepping right up to Eddie. A hand was extended to him, Eddie getting to see those pretty blues up close.
“Hi. I’m uh-I’m Buck. You must be uh, Chris’ dad?”
Oh, he seemed shy; that was adorable.
Eddie reached his own hand out, their eyes never leaving the other.
“Yea. I’m Eddie. You must be the Buck my kids been talking about for the last week.”

Summary
“Hey Buck.”
It was late, though Buck seemed wide awake, something like pain flashing across his face before it was replaced with a smile, his blues beaming to something off camera. Eddie raises a brow as Buck flips the camera, displaying a sleeping Jee-Yun over his lap; Eddie commits the image to memory instantly.
“We’re having a sleepover.”
Eddie has to admit that he’s a little jealous, though he’s glad to see his best friend safe after everything that happened, tucked in with his favorite niece for the night.

Summary
One subject that Buck constantly teased her and Eddie about, was that they didn’t believe in jinxes, curses, or signs from the universe. They’d been in war, and that hadn’t left much room or want for belief in signs from the universe, despite the constant protesting and attempts to provide proof that Buck gave. The two of them knew: the universe didn’t scream.
Except she did.
She screamed, she wailed, she shouted, she laughed, she raged, she cried.
If the universe wanted to be heard, you would hear her.
It was at that moment that Charlotte Jane Edwards believed that the universe did scream, and she did give signs, and she began to believe in miracles.

Summary
Eddie especially likes to think he knows Buck the best.
They’re best friends, afterall. Even in the space of just a few months Eddie has never felt as seen as he is by the man. Buck just gets Eddie. He makes Eddie laugh, he cares about Christopher, goes out of his way to make sure Eddie is okay when their shift is bad. They spend so much time together on and off work, nestling into comfortable routines and habits that Eddie isn’t sure how he functioned without it.
So, it comes as a big shock when Eddie learns something new.
“Who drew this?” He points to a piece of paper pinned to the fridge, a flower drawn in meticulous detail Eddie’s pretty sure he can almost see the way water travels up the shoot of its roots.
“Buck,” Hen replies without looking up from her and Chimney’s card game.
