Summary
Eddie straightens himself up on the bed a little to see his boyfriend clearly, his one hand on Buck's back and other on his bicep. "Buck, what's going on?"
Buck only manages a weak mumble, hot breath tickling Eddie's neck. "Hurts."
He gives Buck's arm a gentle squeeze to get his attention. "What hurts?"
Buck doesn't answer; instead, he chokes out a shaky mewl and his face twists further down.
Eddie brings his hand to cup Buck's face and tilts his head. "Evan, you gotta talk to me, baby." He loosens his hold around Buck and tries to meet his eyes. "Where does it hurt?"
"I— I don't know. Everywhere."

Summary
Buck knows what this is.
The feelings swirling in his gut. How it felt like agony every time he drew in a breath.
It happens slowly, slow enough that even Bobby doesn’t comment until he’s slipped further under the waves.
“What, no steak for you Buck? This is a quality triple A cut.”
It’s a perfect medium-rare, faintly oozing blood.
It makes him want to vomit.
After the shooting, Buck finds he can’t stand the sight of raw flesh, the metallic smell distinct on his tongue—can taste it in his mouth, cloying at the back of his throat.
Everything comes to a head at a BBQ hosted at the Grant-Nash’s.

Summary
Navigating the aftermath of Shannon’s death, Eddie never thought he’d be a widower by age thirty-two and raising a kid on his own without any help. When Christopher calls into one of those late-night talk radio shows asking how to help his Dad, Eddie realizes that he needs to try and move on for Christopher’s sake, so he reluctantly starts dating what everyone tells him is the perfect woman for someone like him.
It turns out Christopher, and he have much different ideas of just who they need.
Buck has had a terrible year. His physical injuries from the truck bombing were bad enough but having Ali leave him seems like a sign from the universe that he’s always meant to be alone. Listening to the radio at night, he hears the most adorable kid ever talking about how his Dad is sad and needs a new partner—LA kids are pretty progressive, and this Christopher kid isn’t particular if his Dad ends up with a woman or a man. It almost gives him hope, but who would want to date a firefighter who can’t help anyone?
A chance encounter on a pier, a tsunami, and a promise to meet up at the Griffith Park Observatory on Valentine’s Day brings together two soulmates who, in another life, would have met very differently.Series

Summary
Eddie has his Saint Christopher medallion. Bobby has a simple cross he wears on a chain around his neck. Chimney his chewing gum. Hen eschews anything like that, saying she’s above superstitions, but Eddie’s seen her stroke a small photo of her family from time to time, much like he had in Afghanistan.
And Buck? Buck has a pocket watch.
Small talismans all, to help them in times of need. In more ways than one, as it turns out.

Summary
"Can you come over?" Buck asks over the phone— he pleas, and the tremble in his voice clenches Eddie's heart.
"Where are you?" Eddie springs to his feet, grabbing his coat and keys in a rush, his brows knitted and face suddenly burning up. "Are you okay?"
Eddie hears another choked out mewl over the line. "I'm— I'm home."
"Are you okay?"
"I'm—" Buck's words get cut off by a pained groan. "God, my—my leg— I c-can't get up."

Summary
Whatever retort Eddie thought he was expecting, this was not it. Empty eyes and a mirthless laugh; a tight-lipped smile that might as well have been a grimace, a slow nod before Buck dragged his gaze back up to flit across the team’s faces and land, finally, on Eddie’s.
He almost missed it – a flash of something cold across dull blue eyes, there and gone in the same moment: resignation, or catharsis, or apathy – something cruelly familiar and dangerously absolute.
“I should have died under that truck. At least then, you would still have been my family.”

Summary
How do you ask a child to be perfect without ever asking them?
By ignoring them. That is until they either injured themselves or caused a scene to get you to notice them….
At least that’s what Evan “Buck” Buckley learned when he was growing up.
It took him twenty-nine years to learn otherwise…

Summary
If Buck was feeling off in the morning, right now he feels like shit.
His heart is beating against his ribcage, strong and fast, and his brain is jolting in his skull. He feels rage building inside his veins, poisoning him and surrounding his every fiber, his skin feels on fire, little invisible spiders crawling and prickling all over. Slight shakes run through his form, his eyes still burn and sting, he can feel the way the fabric of his uniform scratches his skin, the way his boots squeeze his feet, he can feel the bitter acid in his throat rising up and making him nauseous; he can feel everything, and it's enough to drive him mad.
He was hanging by a thread, but now that thread has broken.

Summary
Eddie slides his key in and twists the knob, letting himself in, and the warmth surrounding the hall in contrast to the cold weather outside greets him, easing his nerves in an instant.
On one end of the couch, Buck is fast asleep, sunken deep into the cushions with his head resting against the backrest, his hands in his hoodie's pockets and face slack, curls sticking out freely.
He leans in and brushes his lips over Buck's forehead, but his face drops in a slightly confused frown when the skin underneath his lips feels a little warm.
Huh. Weird.

Summary
Buck's teary eyes widen and he lifts his face to look at the man before him, everything happening too fast for his broken mind to catch up, he breathes out a short huff of air mixed with a mewl and the man presses the barrel of the gun to his forehead, pressing hard so Buck's head tilts backwards.
"You don't know when to die, do you?" He growls between his gritted teeth.
Buck's eyes close and his breath hitches in his throat, face damp with tears, his voice not even a whisper. "I'm sorry."

Summary
A tight strap applies pressure onto his torso— his seatbelt, Buck brings his hand to unfasten it but his hand is shaking and it takes too much from him to press down. He chokes out another whimper and blinks his eyes a few times to focus and tries again.
With a soft click, the belt loosens up and releases its hold on him, and as Buck lifts his head from the cracked glass window, he feels a wetness trickling down his temple, warm and sticky.
He has to call 911.

Summary
Buck drives Eddie and Chris to the airport and, on instinct, he kisses Eddie goodbye.
OR
“Oh shit,” Buck whispered out. His head swam as he stared unseeing, the moment he said goodbye to Eddie stuck on a loop inside his brain – cupping the back of Eddie’s head, fingers sliding into his hair and dragging him forward for a kiss.
“Buck? What’s wrong?” Bobby demanded, stilling his movement in the kitchen.
“I kissed him,” Buck swallowed, his voice barely above a whisper. “I kissed Eddie goodbye and told him I loved him.” He turned slowly to look at Bobby, hands shaking. “Oh fuck, Bobby what have I done?”
