Everyone has seemed to realize that Eddie and Buck are together. Everyone except for Eddie.Eddie isn’t sure when he and Buck started sleeping together. No, not like that. He tries to pinpoint when Buck started staying the night instead of driving home after Christopher fell asleep, but his mind comes up empty. It started out with the two of them dozing off on the couch after long shifts, waking up in the middle of the night leaning against each other before jumping apart as if they had been shocked. Then, they had started sleepily wandering to bed; staying on opposite sides just to wake up with the sun, tangled in one another. They stopped freaking out about it a while ago, moseying on with their mornings as if it was the most normal thing in the world. Best friends shared beds all the time — especially best friends who worked twenty-four-hour shifts together and more often than not found themselves too tired to drive.

His parents both looked shaken, but he couldn’t understand why. He was the one whose entire world got turned upside down, not theirs.
“So, uh,” Buck didn’t know how to do this. He and his parents never talked, “What are you doing here?”
“We came to apologize,” Philip said, “We should have told you about Daniel much sooner. We were lost in our grief, but that wasn’t fair to you. None of it was.”
His parents actually owning up to their mistakes? That was a new one.
“Uh, thank you,” Buck said. He knew he should say more, but he just didn’t know what. This was a positive thing, but that just made it even harder for him to navigate somehow.
“There’s one more thing,” Margaret said, “One more family secret that not even Maddie knows.”

“Everything good Buck?”
Buck nearly jumped at hearing Eddie’s voice, though he quickly straightened himself again.
“Uh yea, uh—there’s just…”
Buck didn’t finish his sentence, though he gestured inside the room, Eddie finally moving to take a look for himself.
Oh.
Inside the room was a dresser, a door that led to the bathroom, followed by a closet, and a small table with chairs. None of those were the problem though. No, that would be the bed that laid in the middle of the room, the single, one bed, in a cabin meant to be occupied by two.
Eddie had no idea what his facial expression read, though he was sure it looked something like Buck’s.

“Yes! You have had your one cup allowance for the day so don't let her trick you into making her one!” Chim’s voice echoed as he walked into the room.
Buck had forgotten Chim would be home, everywhere he went people had someone and he was alone, he smiles at Chim and gestures for a cup and he nods.
“Well no coffee for you either, he can tea with us.” Maddie stated grimacing.

"Are you sure? I'm the one who made the mess, I can help you," Buck offers.
"It's Valentine's Day, I want to do something nice for you and Dad. Open your presents," and then Christopher is gone, off in the kitchen with all the dishes, and Eddie is left staring at Buck, two presents and two cards taunting him from the table.

If anyone ever asks- they were both drunk.
Eddie knows they weren’t, he and Buck don’t like to drink during the week, regardless of whether or not they work the next day. If they are working, they don’t want to be out of it on the job, and if they’re not they don’t want to be out of it when Christopher wakes up the next morning at 7:00am with more energy than either of them can handle.
But there’s not really a good explanation otherwise. No other way to explain why, as Buck was walking out the door, Eddie leaned in and gave him a soft kiss goodnight.

Really, Eddie doesn’t care that the PTA aren’t his biggest fan. He knows he misses too many meetings, and it’s not like he’s best friends with any of the other parents. It doesn’t affect Christopher, so it doesn’t bother him. He’ll pay for the annual fundraising mugs and consider his duty done.
But then Buck picks Christopher up from a class trip and it all goes to hell.
Like, of course Buck is everyone’s dream guy. He’s responsible with kids, and kind, and funny and interesting and hot to touch. That’s obvious. But now Eddie’s fighting to keep the PTA moms, teachers, and dads, all off an unsuspecting and tempting Buck.
