Summary
After Will moves to Montauk, Sunday night calls become the only thing holding the distance between them. But the dream won’t leave Mike alone.
He returns to the same beach night after night, a place he’s visited too many times before. This time, instead of running, he crosses the water.
Will is waiting. Close enough to touch. Close enough to kiss. And when Mike wakes, the feeling doesn’t fade.
The next morning, alone in an empty house for three weeks, Mike tries to convince himself it was only a dream.
Then a pale yellow envelope arrives in the mail.

‘And I know that’s silly, because we call on Sunday nights. But it’s not the same. It’s never just you and me anymore. I mean, obviously I like talking to Dustin and Lucas, but they don’t get me. Not like you do.’It’s almost frightening how closely their thoughts mirror each other. Every Sunday he wishes, quietly, that the calls could just be them. No interruptions. No overlapping jokes. Just Will’s voice and the space between them.
He’s never said it out loud.

Summary

“I didn’t mean to.” Will says in a small voice.
“I know buddy. I know. I don’t blame you. It’s not your fault. He was a bad guy anyway ok?” Dustin says reassuringly.
Will shakes his head and looks down. Tears fall faster down his cheeks.“We need to get out of here. Find the others, ok?” Dustin leans over to catch Will’s gaze. Dustin helps him stand, the metal chair creaks slightly under the shift in weight. Dustin supports him around the waist and slings Will’s right arm around his shoulders. He bends down to snatch a keycard from the corpse on the floor.
The pair awkwardly hobble to the door.
Dustin presents the stolen card to the reader and waits for it to flash green.He opens the door slowly. It creaks, loud in the otherwise barren room.
Dustin strains his neck and peaks down the hallway.
Oh god.It's a bloodbath.

Mike stopped talking to Will in ninth grade. This is true. This is the fact Will carries with him every day. But what Will doesn't know — what Mike has never told him, is that stopping talking isn't the same as stopping looking. Mike watches Will across classrooms, across hallways, across the impossible distance between his apartment window and the fire escape where a figure in black and yellow sometimes lands. He sees Will. He just doesn't know how to say it anymore.
