Hans slides his palm over the wet fabric, pressing hard, testing the edges of the muscle. Henry feels like a horse skittish about being shoed, restrained from bolting only by a strong grip on the bridle.

No one would think twice about having me along then. We’d go off on this ridiculous suicide mission, and if I got caught, it wouldn’t fucking matter.”
Henry snorts. “That’s the dumbest thing that’s ever come out of your mouth. And I have a damned long list.” He takes a step forward, eyes liquid in the orange candlelight. “What do you think happens to soldiers in war, my Lord? To the peasants, and the bastards, and the blacksmith’s boys? The ones without blue blood and silver armour?”
“I –” Hans swallows. “I suppose –”
“No one has to worry about them getting ransomed, aye. But that’s because they get fucking killed instead. They get stabbed and gutted. Shot. Beheaded. Hanged.” Henry huffs a breath. Gentles. “I’m sure you’d make a fair corpse, Sir Hans, but I’d rather not test that theory.”Bookmarked by flycatcher

«Hal… are you awake?» Hans whispered, lifting his head just enough to glance at the other’s face, still heavy with sleep. His fingers moved lightly, feather-soft on his skin: a touch to the cheek, a thumb tracing the line of his jaw, then brushing the corner of his mouth.
Henry didn’t answer right away. Only a low, chest-deep grunt escaped him. «Mmh…» he huffed, without opening his eyes. But the way his arm pulled Hans in a little tighter told its own story.
«You’re snoring…» he added, knowing full well it wasn’t true.
Henry drew in a half-breath that might’ve been a faint snort, or a drowsy protest.
«I’m not snoring…» he murmured, voice low and rough, thick with sleep. His eyes remained closed.

Summary
Hans strides into the building like he owns it-- which he technically does, at least for now-- and unceremoniously drops his pack to the ground, and then himself to the straw bed. Henry stands in the doorway, rain pounding down behind him, hair wet and stuck to his face. Hans chews the inside of his cheek and tries not to think about the kinds of things the two of them might get up to in here, and fails.
After the events of KCD2, Hans and Henry find a place all to themselves to hole up while they await summons from Rattay.
