It's believed that a union between a human and a witcher will improve the relationship between two species. Jaskier has been convicted for his amorous adventures, and his enemies want to punish him once and for all by making him a mate to a witcher. Jaskier has never known a witcher, so he believes the horrific stories about these creatures being sadists and executors towards humans. Jaskier expects to be taken into captivity and tortured, but at least it can be slightly better than his alternative — hanging. When Jaskier sees his mate for the first time on their wedding ceremony, he can't believe that it's THAT bad. His life should be over now. And he loses it.
