Five days after X-2, a creature wakes in Alkali Lake, but she does not belong in the water.A note on rating/archive warnings: Mostly, this fic is a mild/mod teen. It wouldn't top a PG-13 in cinema. But there are two chapters that ought to push the rating up. One for grief, one for discussion of sexual assault in a way that might well be triggering. These chapters will be clearly marked, and the fic is deliberately formatted so that a reader may skip them and not really lose any plot, just a bit of shading.
