Summary
Tim never got the recognition that he deserved for all his work. At least not from the ones he worked along side with. Weirdly it was always the ones he defeated and worked against that actually appreciated his efforts.
1 year away from Gotham. 1 year without Bruce and he realized why Bruce was always so hard on him. Why Bruce always kept him busy and made sure to keep an eye on him. It wasn't because he wasn't good enough, it was precisely because he had too much potential. Without Bruce there to keep him in line, he crossed a lot of lines and now walks a morally grey path.
Bruce is back now though, so vacations over. It's time to return to Gotham and face the music. What will happen when Tim shows up after a year of radio silence much different than before. What happened?

Summary
Tim wasn't part of the Bat family. Well, not really anyway. With Bruce's return from the time-stream, Damian's acceptance into the family, and Jason still lurking around - Tim's role has morphed to one of a glorified secretary.
He convinced himself that it was okay. That it was what he deserved - after all, he did stalk his way into their lives, he couldn't expect much from people who never really wanted him in the first place. "It won't hurt anymore," Tim said, and for a fleeting second, there was something in his eyes. A flicker of profound, unsettling certainty. "It won't hurt anyone. Ever again."
Or
Kon has been dead for 2 years. Tim tried and failed to clone him, and once Kon is resurrected and finds out he is repulsed.
