Summary

She emerges like a nightmare taking form, tall, lithe. Her skin glows with an unearthly light unrelated to the swinging basement light above. Her eyes, bright, unnervingly green. Her form slowly becomes sharper, the shadows clinging to her body like dark silks. The sheer presence of her steals the breath from your lungs; it’s hard to breathe.
She takes a slow step forward, and her gaze sweeps over your circle with an undisguised amusement. You take a step back on instinct. She bends at the waist, a finger touching one of your chalk lines.
“Oh, little scholar,” she muses. “What have you done?”

You could see her tongue fighting to speak behind the cage of her teeth, her eyelashes fluttering rapidly like gull feathers frazzled by a storm. No matter how desperately she tried, no matter how easy it should’ve been for an automation like her, she could never truly contain her expressiveness.
