"...There was something so quakingly vulnerable in letting Husk’s paws roam over the places he'd never let another soul wander: his ears, his sides, his tail.
Ordinarily, Alastor doesn’t do vulnerable. In life, only in front of his mother, until she needed him to be her rock and then to no one else ever again. The perfectly curated radio persona, the imperturbable man, was such a comfortable fit that he found himself wearing it more and more even out of the workplace until it consumed him whole.
But with Husker, in the privacy of closed doors and hidden under thick sheets, all the radio static and pomp has a tendency to just melt away...."
