If his voice was naturally ripping up his esophagus like that, his screaming must rival the snarl of an angry Cane Corso. If he bore his teeth, lips curling up around them, he would resemble one as well.

Vox hurried inside, taking Alastor’s hand in his own. “Sweetheart, what happened to you!?”
“I- I was making dinner and- and the knife slipped.”
It didn’t look like a just a slip of the knife; the damage was to the wrist, not the fingers. This was not how people usually cut themselves cooking. Vox bit his lip. Had Alastor tried to hurt himself again? Vox had thought his wife was past that now. “... you need to be more careful, precious.”
What starts as a normal evening ends in disaster.

In a slightly different timeline, just a little to the left and up, where the ship is a good distance away from its horrible predestined course, Curly takes a good, long hard look at his friend, sucks it up, clenches his jaw and really, really tries to fix things, just as he promised Anya he would. Jimmy doesn't take it well.
But maybe, it will be enough to keep the crew alive - just this one time.or the one where Curly actually confronts Jimmy and Jimmy lashes out at him, violently, but it's not as easy to sell the lie when the evidence on Curly's body isn't burnt off along with his skin.

A sign of security that he was in fact still here, and I didn’t fuck things up so much that he had no option but to pull away. That cold distance washed over me in a disgusting way, and it felt worse than watching someone's life fade from in front of me. But yet here he was, gear piled at the foot of my cot- he was the one to drag me back here. He was the one who patched me up and waited until I awoke. He was the one who stayed first.
Wordlessly he put a fist around my heart, and closed it tight until every emotion I had locked away spilled out from under me.
“Konig.” I choked out, drawing him impossibly closer to me.
“I’m here, little Maus.”
He pressed his mouth against the top of my head in a gentle kiss, and I hated when he pulled away. I wanted to crawl inside the safe cavern of his chest and never leave.
