Summary
A sudden motion at the door broke through Nico’s wandering thoughts, just as he had reached the final lamp at the front of the shop. He jerked his head up to find a young man lurching through the door, tripping over his own feet in his haste to shut the door behind him. A mop of brown curls fell over his forehead, his chest heaving with the remnants of breathless laughter.
Nico knew who he was instantly. Enough time living in a hub of world motorsport meant there was little he could do to avoid at least a passing familiarity with its rotating cast of stars, even if the specifics of the sport remained a complete mystery to him. Despite the late hour, and the promise of a warm cup of tea before bed waiting for him upstairs, Nico couldn’t help the curious peal of laughter that tripped its way up his throat as he watched the flustered interloper catch his footing.
“Escaping a fan,” Nico asked, “Or the press?”
