Summary
Etho, a professional Pokémon trainer, sees his career come to sudden halt when his star Pokémon, Sidekit, gets too injured for a PokeCenter to heal. He comes home to New Hermiton after years, and ends up on a journey across the region to get back his family's Slabstrike gym. Along with him is Bdubs, a friend of his sister's. They end up in a precarious friends with benefits relationship, both of them left to figure out their own feelings alone.

John turned back, slow. “Why?”

John stayed where he was, Javier took a step closer.
“I’m not too great with spelling-“ John began, before Javier was taking his jaw into his wet hands and kissing him hard. He stumbled back a bit and Javier chased him.
It felt like shooting his revolver and embracing the shock of the gun humming with life. It felt like every sunset he’d ever watched, every shot tossed back, every bullet dodged. In his periphery, he saw reflections of stars in the ripples. In front of him, he saw his own kind of stars in Javier’s lashes, his sunspots, the creases of his eyes.
