Summary
The night air is alive with the smell of the bonfires and the songs of crickets, tree frogs, and nightingales. Buntings are strung tree-to-tree around the perimeter of the clearing, lanterns hang from long poles, and fireflies dance about in the shadows, a flickering duet with the sparks that rise from the fire pits.
It’s the first of May — May Day for some, Beltane for others — and tonight, the Nine Towns surrounding the lush fields of the Crown Valley will feast to the end of the long winter and the coming of spring.
Or, a bit of a reverse Cinderella story.

Summary
There’s a man in Henry’s bedroom. That, itself, isn’t noteworthy. He’s become rather proficient at smuggling men in and out of his room at Kensington Palace and his first-year flat at Oxford.
It’s not even especially noteworthy that the man is quite arresting. For better or worse, Henry’s title and reputation tend to help him pull gorgeous men with somewhat astonishing frequency. This man is, of course, particularly gorgeous. He’s tall, with olive skin, dark hair, and a bone structure that would send the old masters into a frenzy of pigments, linseed oil, and canvas.
But, perhaps, the most noteworthy thing is that the man in Henry’s bedroom is quickly and awkwardly wiping his eyes with the backs of his hands. That he seems just as surprised to see Henry as Henry is to see him.
Or, the handwavey, time-travelly, astral-projectiony, canon-smooshy AU nobody asked for, but we're giving it to you anyway.

As the sounds of the city coax Henry reluctantly to wakefulness, he notices that he’s been crowded over to the very edge of the bed. He’s clutching a corner of the duvet cover to his chest, one of his legs is dangling over the side of the mattress, and he has no bloody idea what’s happened to his trousers.
This last point wouldn’t be quite so salient if he weren’t also reasonably certain that he’s woken in a bed that is not his own.

“We’re not going to pretend to be divorced just so Chris can get into a summer camp, Buck,” Eddie says, trying to sound convincing even as he starts to feel his resolution crumbling inside of him.
“Why not?” Buck asks, sounding genuinely baffled, like he can’t understand Eddie’s refusal at all.
And how does Eddie begin to explain the irrationality of his rational denial?
He can’t tell Buck the real reason he can’t go through with it. He can’t tell him without having to reach into his chest, clawing out his heart, setting it down at Buck’s feet still beating, and saying, “Because the only thing worse than loving you knowing I can’t have you would be having to pretend like I didn’t love you enough to keep you with me forever.”

Summary
Inevitable comes around four in the morning. He’d been tossing and turning since they’d gotten back from their last call a couple hours ago, and had finally decided to give up and look for a snack in the kitchen. He thought he left the bunk room quietly enough that no one would notice, but when he pulls his head out of the fridge with a jar of peanut butter, Eddie is standing across the island from him, that grim look still fixed on his face.
“Hey,” Buck says.
“Hey,” Eddie says back. “You’ve been avoiding me.”
Buck’s cornered and he knows it. He shrugs, twisting the jar in his hands. “It’s been a busy shift.”
Eddie doesn’t roll his eyes, but Buck still feels like he does. Instead he walks over to the big table, pulls out a chair and sits. “Just wanted to ask if you can stop by after our shift is over. Wanted to talk to you about something.”
