It was no secret that Ilya loved a challenge. He loved it even more whenever Shane was involved with it. Now that they weren't facing off against each other on the ice, he took a sick joy in finding ways to bring out the competitiveness in his husband. Something Shane would outwardly scoff at, but rise to nonetheless.
This was how they worked. Ilya would propose a deal, and Shane would be hopeless in stopping it. But maybe, just maybe, one day he'd come out on top.

“I can.” She huffed, crossing her arms and looked at him sideways.
“You can? Alright Granger, let's see.”
“Alright, Malfoy.”
From two tables ahead of them, Ron was called on to share the ingredients for Polyjuice potion. One of Hermione's perfected brews since second year.
“Oh, erm, you need, lacewing flies and porcupine quills.”
Draco looked sidelong at Hermione, smirking to himself at Ron's mistake. She shifted in her seat and sat on her hands to avoid correcting his obvious mistake. Draco reached up to stretch his arms, letting one fall to rest on the back of her chair, tugging on a curl and leaning into her space, “Look at you,” He whispered lowly, “being so good for me.” A gasp escaped her and a heat flushed her cheeks, “You and I both know porcupine quills should never be mixed with lacewing flies unless we're trying to end up like Finnegan. Are you going to correct him?”
“No.” She gritted through her teeth, feeling her chest rise with labored breath.
“Good girl.”

Harry and Ginny had become parents and weren't as available to listen to her grievances, nor did they want to hear about her hatred of their most favorite holiday.
Draco used Quillit for a different reason. He'd grown numb to the anger that he'd faced after the war, and was only able to find new thrills through rage baiting people online. The perfect opportunity presented itself during the week leading up to Christmas.

It was well known across pureblood culture that the nineteenth year was a significant one. Traditions were to be kept, were to be respected, and were to be pursued whole heartedly. Everyone outside of those returning for 8th year in Ron's circle had already been promised to marriage contracts and had nothing to worry about, but he had everything riding on this year. His future partner, his future life, everything. The 19th year was said to be the year that your magic took hold and fortunes would reveal themselves, he scoffed internally at the idea. His family never practiced pureblood culture to the extent of the other Sacred 48, but that didn't mean the traditions didn't apply.
With his newfound friend group consisting of almost entirely purebloods, it was hard to ignore.
To say Ron was hoping that this year would finally give him direction was an understatement. He'd fulfilled all solstice and equinox requirements, hoping to connect with his full magic, or at least get a glimpse at who his soul would bond with.
New Year's Eve was his final opportunity.
