“You ever think,” Suguru said, lying on his back across the bed, staring up at the ceiling, like the answer might be written there. “that we’re kind of… stuck like this?”
Satoru sat with his legs crossed on the floor, back against the bed. He seemed caught off guard by the question. He turned his head to look up at Suguru on his bed. “Like what?”
“Like this.” Suguru waved his hand in the air, gesturing vaguely between them. As if he was trying to grab something intangible. “Us. This thing.”
Oh. Satoru’s chest tightened. “We’re best friends.”
“Yeah,” Suguru said, too quickly, like the word burned on the way out. Then, softer, “Yeah.”
