This ‘not-Evern’ smiled big and toothily, jaw unhinged too far. The jolly good natured light in his eyes now a cruel cunning glint. The look taunted her. So very much her brother and yet so very much not. No, this ‘not-Evern’ was more like her. Vesper who was cold and harsh and uncaring. Who frowned more often than smiled and was quick to react with force. She who bore her teeth so that her brother could wear his in a smile. Seeing a sneer on his face, identical to her own was like looking into a mirror. A twisted distorted funhouse mirror. A cursed reflection. And in return she’d become a twisted version of him.
It was never a good sign if she was the one offering mercy.
