No Less Family

Summary:

Vesper’s twin has something important to say, she wishes they’d just say it already.

Notes:

My fluffy idea of Evren coming out to Vesper. I was on a three hour flight and had time to write this idea expanding on my headcanon in the bound smp discord. Hope you enjoy.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was a calm day flying clunker number whatever this was through the cosmos searching for their father when Vesper’s twin approached her in the engine room.

“Vesper?” The voice was quiet and hesitant.

“Oh dear what now?”

“I- I wanted to tell you something.”

“I swear if Beam put another hole in something I am not patching it up this time!”

“It’s not that.”

“Well get on with it, clearly it is something important with how you’re acting and if the punctuation cowboy cops have reared their heads again the sooner I know the sooner we can take care of it.”

“Vesper!” Their twin pleaded.

“What?”

“I think I’m a boy.” Vesper froze mid twist of her wrench.

“What?” She asked, turning to face her twin who was squirming where she- no he, stood and twisted his fingers together while staring at the floor.

“I- I think- I might- be-a-boy,” he rambled again.

“Ok.”

“Ok?”

“Ok.”

“You’re not mad?”

Vesper screwed her face up with disgust. “Mad? Why would I be mad? You’re my sis- well I guess not my sister, especially not my ‘Cis’-star,” Vesper emphasized the syllable opposite to the usual as she elbowed her twin and began walking to the dining area. “Guess that just means the title is all mine now.”

“What?”

“Don’t be stupid, you’re no longer my sis-Star, but you’re no less family. You’re still my twin, still stuck with me yet.”

“You mean it?”

“Of course I mean it you goof! Oh don’t cry, it is too early to be this sappy.”

“What? Ves- it’s midday with the time system we’ve been following.”

“Exactly. Too early to be this sappy- name?”

“Name?”

“Yes name.”

“Vesper?”

“No, that’s my name, you can’t have it.”

“What, Ves?”

“Ugh, you are a goof you know. Aren’t you meant to be soo much smarter with all your two extra seconds of life or whatever.”

“You mean to tell me you don’t remember my name? My own sister forgetting, shock, gasp!”

“Didn’t know if you were going by the same one, smart ass.”

“Ooh, oh. It’s- it’s Evren now.”

“Evren. Ev-er-in,” Vesper tasted the name on her tongue. “Not bad, needs a bit of work to make nick-namable, but it suits you I suppose.”

“Wow, stunning praise.”

“Oh shut up Ev!” Vesper teased with a smirk. She shoved his shoulder and nudged her way in front of him to the ice box. She dug around under the frozen mixed veggies that her twin hated and pulled out a small container of ice cream that she had smuggled onto the ship at the last port. Evren gasped.

“You’ve been holding out on me!”

“Yep.”

“You traitor! Betrayer! Shame on the family name hiding ice cream from me!”

“Keep complaining and I’ll keep holding out on you and for as fast you can fly my teleportation will always be faster on this ship and you know it.”

That shut Evren up. Vesper chuckled as she scooped the three quarters of the container that was left into two bowls and slid one to her brother. She scooped up a spoonful of honey-berry icy goodness and held it up to Ev. He mirrored the action. She clinked their spoons.

“To my brother, the best brother but still the second best twin.”

“I hate you.” Evren shoved her shoulder. Vesper laughed as she put the spoon in her mouth and licked the ice cream off then stabbed her spoon into his bowl and stole a scoop.

“Hey!”

“Never! You didn’t think transitioning would change things between us did you?”

“I don’t know why I ever worried.”

Notes:

This story is dedicated to my little brother who I told something similar to when he came out to me. “Doesn’t matter if you’re my sister, sibling, or brother, you’ll always be my kiddo, you’re no less my family.” This buddied with head ruffles and chocolate. If you’re reading this Q, I love you.
