Summary
To everyone else in the room, he’s just a guy on a stage. To Eddie, he is a harsh reminder of the reality he’s spent years trying to forget. A memory he never completely managed to erase, now suddenly breaking free from where it’s been locked away. Flooding him all at once with the sorrow and pain of another lifetime he never got to fully live.

Summary
Eyes fixed on thick fingers with calloused tips, veins visible on the back of his hands, moving methodical, almost ceremonial, as Eddie slowly slides one chunky ring after another off his left.
One-two-three, he lets them drop onto the nightstand individually, each thudding sound sending little shocks of desire through Steve, making impatience grow into unbearable need.

Fucking jocks.
They’ve always been a pain in the ass but at least it’s not the same anymore as it was back in high school. Because now that he’s finally made it to college, Eddie has found a better way to deal with them than getting into useless fights he won’t win 90% of the times.
Now, he is taking it literal – fucking jocks.

Summary
Sometimes Eddie forgets how much time has passed since he first showed up on the trailer’s doorstep, how much he’s grown since then. But as he takes in Wayne’s features, he finds a reminder in the new lines he discovers on his uncle’s face, little signs of age that make his heart grow and sink at the same time.
It hits him then, out of nowhere, how much of his life Wayne has given up for Eddie. To raise him and help him become the man he is today. How much love he poured into his upbringing, despite all the trouble he put him through. (...)
And it makes him wonder, how a man who has so much love to give never ended up with a family of his own.
"Can I ask you something?”
Wayne looks up from his paper with raised brows, waiting for Eddie to continue.
“Did you ever regret not having kids?"

Summary
It's stupid, obviously, but it's kind of intriguing to imagine what it would be like if they'd ever come eye to eye.
He'd probably faint and die if it ever happened in real life. He'd absolutely embarrass himself, maybe stutter a few incoherent words before blacking out, but-
But a man can dream, right?

Summary
Steve sees red.
So much of it where it doesn't belong.
On Eddie's lip and dripping from his nose, staining the tissue he holds against his face with a shaking hand.
Red like the rage building in the pit of his stomach, spreading into Steve's clenched fists, burning hot in his veins, desperate to seek revenge on the ones that did this to him.

Summary
Eddie's heart is pounding hard in his chest. He didn't think he'd be this nervous but right now, he isn't sure anymore that it was a good idea. (Un-)fortunately, he's never been one to choose reason over appetency.
He wanted this. He asked for this. So now he might as well follow through.

Summary
That's what he gets for sticking his nose in other people's business, why he's always getting himself in trouble. Eddie should've listened to his gut and pack his shit up long before the fight even started, should've looked the other way like everyone else at this goddamn party instead of making it his problem.
But he couldn't look away from the tragedy happening right before his eyes; it's hard to pretend not to care when Steve is in the centre of it all.

Summary
"No one ever offered to hold the door for me. Or pay for dinner. Or pick me up for a date."
Eddie doesn't need Steve to spell it out; he knows what he's thinking. That he's not special enough to be treated like that, to have someone care for him like he cares for others.
It's heart-breaking and he can’t let it stand like that.

Summary
“Knew you’d be here,” Eddie says when he walks up to him. “Glad I was right.”
“What made you think I wasn’t gonna leave?” Steve asks and is genuinely curious. It’s not like he gave Eddie any reason to believe he would even consider his offer, so there must’ve been something else Eddie saw in his act.
“Told you, Steve. I know you. You think you’re all tough and unapproachable but anyone who takes the time to look behind that mask, can see that deep down you’re just a lonely soul, searching for your place in this big messy world.”
“So what? You gonna sit me down and deep talk me out of my problems? Sorry, man. Takes more than a hobby psychiatrist to fix me.”
Eddie steps closer, his big dark eyes not leaving Steve’s as he lifts a hand to the side of his face, thumb brushing across his cheek. It’s so gentle and comforting, Steve feels himself lean into the touch unwillingly.
“You don’t need to be fixed. You just need someone to show you how good you really are.”

Summary
"No but seriously, baby. You are sure about this, right? There's no going back after."
Eddie thinks for a moment, not because he's having doubts, just to let the finality of Steve's words settle. He is right; after tonight, the whole world will know who Eddie belongs to. They'll know Steve's name, and his face, and-
"I should be asking you the same. Do you really want to give up your privacy for a life in the spotlight? I mean- I want nothing more than to show you off. But you have more to lose than me."
Steve pulls him closer, placing a soft kiss on his lips that instantly melts Eddie's worries away.
"Never been more sure about anything in my life. I'm yours, Eddie. And I can't wait to show everyone how much I love you."
