Sometimes Eddie forgets how much time has passed since he first showed up on the trailer’s doorstep, how much he’s grown since then. But as he takes in Wayne’s features, he finds a reminder in the new lines he discovers on his uncle’s face, little signs of age that make his heart grow and sink at the same time.
It hits him then, out of nowhere, how much of his life Wayne has given up for Eddie. To raise him and help him become the man he is today. How much love he poured into his upbringing, despite all the trouble he put him through. (...)
And it makes him wonder, how a man who has so much love to give never ended up with a family of his own.
"Can I ask you something?”
Wayne looks up from his paper with raised brows, waiting for Eddie to continue.
“Did you ever regret not having kids?"

Summary
He's pacing.
He's made so many rounds through the small hotel room that he's starting to worry about getting a surcharge for wearing it down too much.
The thought makes him stop, eyeing the window instead. Not for the first time, he considers just bolting, opening the window and climbing out, skipping town, never looking back. The room is on the second floor, but the balcony next door leads to the fire exit, he could totally do it. And even if not, falling to his death currently feels preferable to waiting for Steve and that girl.
Fully aware that he's a weak, weak man for Steve, Eddie still questions his sanity.

But he can't do it, needs to keep the distance, can't risk to put himself in this situation once more. Not when, after just one time, it takes all his strength to keep his body from betraying him, to keep a straight face and Steve none the wiser about how much he would actually love to. Not by accident or as a favour, just to get more of Steve.

Summary
It’s not Wayne’s fault. He didn’t know what he was doing. He was just trying to help.
Eddie repeats this all to himself as he pulls into Steve Harrington’s driveway. He can’t believe the situation he’s put himself in.
He doesn’t think Steve can actually help, but Jeff insisted that he could and Jeff wouldn’t steer him into disaster on purpose. Steve agreed to keep it quiet, probably more for his own sake than Eddie’s, at the expense of some weed for his next party.
