Naturally, he ends up in The Centaurs, it's one season, one streak of matches to make this new team he joined drive itself to winning a cup. He gets way more than he expected. It's a problem, he thinks.

Troy Barrett has always been sensitive, it's something his father tried and failed to beat out of him. It was engrained into his very bones, but he'd learnt to push it down to only crack once alone. He laughed with the jokes, joined Dallas's name calling, or starting fights, and trained hard.
He'd done everything he could to keep his job stable in his team. And he'd been traded, to fucking Ottawa after making the dumb decision to tell Coach that Dallas was being weird. He could have handled it, but he had to go and tell.
Ilya Rozanov was an arsehole, but a carefully curated one. He didn't act like Barrett did, he was careful, and now said arsehole was going to be part of their team.

Summary

Luca Haas is at 22 the right winger on the Ottawa Centaurs hockey team. Often called the baby of the team, he’s a shy guy who likes to draw in off time. When he was younger he looked up to Ilya Rozanov, who is now his teammate and the captain of the Centaurs. Getting over the little celebrity crush on Ilya wasn’t that easy but by the time 2022 rolls around, he has gotten used to having the Russian and his husband -Shane Hollander- on the team. That’s when he sees someone showing up at the rink during their practices. Not part of the team or the staff, everyone wonders who the young fellow sitting on the bench is. Luca is no different.
Ashton Wiebe, a figure skater who retired way before it was his time to and who happens to be the coach’s -Brandon Wiebe- nephew has been coaching little kids in figure skating. Looking younger than he actually is, he often gets mistaken for a teen. Ashton has no interest in the Centaurs practice runs or that’s what it looks like to anyone on the ice. In truth he’s sketching them on his notepad. When Luca shows interest in his 'performances', Ashton lets him watch which is not a privilege he gives to everyone.

More stressed than he had ever been in his life, unsure how he was going to get through the season, and the last thing he expected was to be taken right under his childhood idol's wing. In what turns out to be a manageable season with the newfound mentorship of Ilya Rozanov.

Troy eyed Luca, noting his shaking hands. “You okay Haasy? You’re a little pale, sure you weren’t outside for too long?”
The kid visibly swallowed, looking like he was going to explode if he didn’t get out of this room. “Fine, something happened, but it’s not a big deal or anything I just need to go get—“ He cut himself off, but Ilya latched onto his words anyways.
”Get what, Haas? Someone? Something? Is snowing, yes? What could possibly be worth going out in this weather?” His captain was clearly not going to let this one go, which Troy honestly couldn’t blame him for.
Harris stepped up on the opposite side of Troy from Ilya, resulting in the kid being sort of boxed in against the door. Troy would put money on that being the thing that finally forced the confession out of Luca’s mouth.
”I need to go pick up my boyfriend.”(Or: Luca is a simp, Ilya torments, Troy gets tormented, Harris just wants everyone to get home safe, and the Ottawa Centaurs continue to collect queer players like Pokémon)

With an interview with Scott Hunter about his coming out and the challenges he faced, Luca became very aware of how that threatens the household he currently live under. He watches as the Centaurs accept Ilya with open arms and the Voyageurs kicking Shane aside. He watches, quietly, observing, and discovered more about himself through the turmoil.
