“Simon.” A hand finds its way into his hair, long fingers tangling into the mess. “Simon?”
The touch. It's warm like fire. It rests heavy on his scalp. It shepherds him away from his mind, back to reality where he is making a fool of himself in front of Grace.
Simon unfolds his wings reluctantly, tipping his head to look at Grace properly through bleary vision. The hand on his head doesn’t slip away. Not that he wants it to. He leans into it, bracing his knees against the sand so he can tilt towards the touch.

Summary
The responsibility of looking after a partner never worked well with him. When he's by himself, the only thing he has to save is his own skin. Constantly worrying and micromanaging another person is stressful. More stressful than the actual job. Where's my partner? Are they hurt? Are they doing something stupid? Do they know proper protocol?
Nines broke Gavin's record of how long he can keep someone in his general vicinity. That's upsetting to think about. Just a little over a week and they've become Detroit Police Department's favorite dysfunctional couple.

Summary
Grace is most familiar with the kind of blood commonly encountered on Earth. Not that he’s particularly familiar with blood in general. He’s had the occasional lab involving blood from a slew of subjects, particularly as a graduate student. Still, he’s running circles around what exactly he’s looking at.
He doesn’t want to jump the gun and claim the blood is from anything Earth related. However, the more tests he runs, the more he’s inclined to believe it.

Still, as they stare at each other, waiting for someone's resolve to crack, Grace holds his gaze. He never looks away. Never denying him that connection.
“Did you want to come in?” Grace suddenly asks, voice quiet and raspy.
Simon blinks. Casts his gaze aside. Shifts his weight. He must want that, right? Why else would his subconscious drag him here?

Summary
He follows suit, letting go of Simon in a sharp and jerky movement to right himself. His palms tingle even after he's shoved them into his pockets. It crawls up his wrists and down his spine, forcing him to clench his jaw to suppress a shudder.
“Sorry.” They say in unison.
“Right no, it's fine,” Grace jumps, staring at his shoes in embarrassment. “They can be pushy.”
He can hear Rocky protest behind him in offense, who goes off to defend himself against Grace’s slander.
