What was supposed to be a casual day of horse shoe throwing and the usual weeding out of bad apples in his peaceful little town, settled in the vast sandy lands of the wild west, Sheriff Sonic's whole lifestyle gets thrown all out of whack when he finds he has to play impromptu lawmaker to the notorious and highly dangerous criminal, Outlaw Shadow.
His execution was set for the same day Sonic learned of his existence, now Shadow is forced to go along with the Sheriff's silly ploy and by the grace of his benevolent persuasion skills, begs a pardon.
Tasked with the responsibility of being the sole care taker of the abrasive miscreant, the Sheriff now has his hands full of not only taking care of his beloved town and all its people, he now had to take care of a prickly hedgehog with a nasty temper.

Prince Shadow plans to overthrow his father, Emperor Black Doom, who has been neglecting their people for far too long. When the Prince of Mobotropolis appears at his coming-of-age ceremony, Shadow is presented with a unique opportunity. Prince Sonic is an unpredictable variable, but one that may help Shadow achieve his goals, in the end.
