Wade struck.
In a blur of motion, gleeful and merciless, he surged forward. His gloved hand clamped the loose end of the chain, jerking Peter’s arm backward. The other cuff swung wide, and with a deft flick of his wrist, like he’d been practicing all his life, Wade snapped it shut around Peter’s free hand. Another click rang out, final, smug.
Both wrists caught. Arms yanked behind Peter's back.

“Are you okay?” Derek asked urgently.
“I—yeah, yes, I’m fine.”
Derek didn’t need to hear his heartbeat to know that Stiles was lying through his teeth.
“Video call,” he demanded. “Now.”
“Derek—”
“I’m not asking.”
Someone in the background laughed and said, “Ooh, your hubby’s mad.”

Stiles travels for work for the first time since Derek and Eli moved in. One highly stressful week later in which Derek slowly drives himself (and baby Eli) insane, torn between knowing that Stiles can take care of himself and has a good team and wanting to protect Stiles anyway, they finally address the little life they've been building together. Kind of.

“Stiles?”
Even hearing his voice reminds him what a bad idea this is. “Hey, Derek. Just ran into a beta who was really interested in your location. In a distinctly non-friendly way. So heads up.”
“Are you alright?” Derek asks. Even through the bad connection he sounds a little wrecked, like he’s got the gist that no, Stiles is not.
“Peachy,” Stiles lies. They breathe at each other for a moment, until he can’t take all the things they’re not saying, anymore. “How’s Winnipeg? Liking the snow?”
“Calgary, now,” Derek corrects.
“Man, don’t tell me that,” Stiles whines. “It’s safer if I just don’t know.”
“Not safer for you, if you need me.”
Stiles snorts at that, then winces. If he needs Derek. Sure, let’s put that in the hypothetical. “I gotta go. Just wanted to warn you.” He doesn’t hang up.
“I love you,” Derek says, fast and hot like he thinks Stiles might cut him off in the middle of it. He’s not wrong.
“That’s nice,” Stiles says, in a tone that implies the opposite. He ends the call.
