Chapter Text
Y/N was a hardworking woman. She woke up on time, kept a tight schedule, and slept. She didn’t really go out or drink, or smoke. She was… Just a good person all around. But in the last few months in her late 20s (Almost 30s), she’s been faced with adversity. She’s infertile. After trying and trying for children with her husband - There was never a positive pregnancy test. And after she found out she was infertile, her husband seemed not to love her anymore and filed for a divorce. Were they married long? Sort of. For about 5 years. Since they were both 25. It was great up until 6 months ago when it all came crumbling down.
But Y/N tries not to think about it, because if she does, she’ll cry until she can’t anymore. She doesn’t have anyone anymore, nor does she have the children she wanted so much. Now she just lives, working until she’s too tired to go on. Right now, she was at her job, working as a security guard at a casino. It was an easy job to get, and had fairly good pay. She stood in a dark corner, watching people have fun or lose everything they worked for. Her phone buzzed in her back pocket and she pulled it out to see she got a text from her good friend, John. John worked as a kindergarten teacher due to his energetic personality. The kids loved him, and you often wondered if working as a literal punching bag was the right choice. Anyways, you open his text.
john :P : y/n!!!!!!! how are you doing?
You smile a little. He was always checking on you since the split.
y/n: I’m doing okay. Actually, a little tired lol. But I’m sure it’s nothing compared to you running around all day with the kids.
john :P : that’s good to hear! i'm pretty wide awake. grading some addition homework :P
y/n: Ah I see. Did they do well?
john :P : somewhat. i’m noticing they’re having issues with problems involving 9
You smile a little wider. It was cute, kids innocently getting numbers mixed up.
y/n: Makes sense. I used to get those confused when I was a kid.
john :P : yeah i think i did too. anyways, everyone wanted to know if you wanted to come hang out with us tomorrow night at that new chinese place downtown!
You thought briefly. Hanging out with your best friends after not doing it for so long? You weren’t sure… You figure you’ll bring the mood down with your depressive aura.
y/n: I don’t know, John. Are you guys sure you want me around?
John immediately replied.
john :P : YESSSSS of course dude!! why is that even a question we miss you so much!
You chuckle softly under your breath. He was right. They did miss you, and it was obvious. One of them at least texts you once a day. Jade did it multiple times. You often wondered if that would get her in trouble at her job.
y/n: Okay okay. I’ll come, I promise.
john :P : YAYYYYY okay try to be there by 7 pm :D
y/n: I will. TTYL.
You put your phone away and look around the casino. No one’s started a fight yet - Never mind. At the bar, you spotted two men having a discussion that was quickly becoming more and more heated. You sigh, walking over and beginning to break up the fight.
The two men were practically having a screaming match and were a bit taller than you, but you couldn’t just not do your job.
“Sirs,” You begin. “This argument you’re having is disturbing the other guests. If it doesn’t end I’ll be forced to remove you from the premises.” You calmly state.
The two look at you like you’re crazy. It was clear they were intoxicated. One burst out laughing.
“Oh, wow, you? You’re gonna remove me from the premises?” One replied mockingly. Now the other man was looking at him like an idiot.
“Yes. Do you want your fun night to end so soon? You’ve only been here for about an hour.” You say, looking at him with one eyebrow cocked upwards.
“Get lost, lady. This has nothin’ to do with you and your stupid fuckin’ threats..” He shoo’s you away as he turns his face back towards the other man, quickly continuing the argument they were having.
You groan as you pull out your walkie-talkie, turning it on before mumbling some words into it.
“Hey, Dirk? Got some guys for you…”
Within moments, your very large-and-in-charge coworker came in with his iconic sharp sunglasses, a smirk on his face and cracking his knuckles.
Oh well. You tried to warn them.
…
Your shift ends at about 3 AM. You weren’t working tomorrow, or rather, today, so you could stay up as long as you want or sleep in as long as you want. Anyway, you were on your way home, cruising in your 2010 Nissan Altima with the driver's seat window down halfway so you could enjoy the “fresh air”. The drive didn’t last very long, as your job wasn’t super far from your apartment complex. It was a luxury apartment complex, with nice large windows that gave you a nice skyview of your city. You pulled into the communal garage, and by this point, you were itching for a shower. You made your way to the elevator, pressing the button that read ‘10’ on it. It was hell to bring groceries up to your room.
With the familiar ding of the elevator letting you know you were almost home, you stepped off and trailed to your door. 1031. You quickly pulled out your key, absolutely itching for a shower and a glass of wine, Rose got you. Making your way inside, you practically strip on your way to the bathroom, only being in your underwear by the time you make it inside the bathroom. You run the water, turn on the shower, shed your bra and panties, and step under the steaming hot water. A contented sigh left your lips as the water cascaded down your body, releasing any tension you may have had. You washed yourself up with your favourite coconut body wash, rinsed off, and wrapped yourself in a towel. (You can choose if you did or did not wash your hair.)
After your skin care, you slipped on your robe and bunny slippers before making your way to the kitchen with a yawn. It was about 3:45 AM according to your microwave. You pulled out a wine glass, then the wine shortly after. Pouring the savory, dark burgundy liquid into your glass, you grab it and take it back to your room. There, it was fairly clean with a minimal amount of clutter. There was also a balcony you enjoyed sitting on when you needed to clear your mind. Like right now. All the bad things in your life were starting to bubble back up within your mind. You slipped outside, the summer breeze tickling your legs. You lean your body over the sturdy railing, your eyes peering up at the night sky. There were thin clouds that you could see through somewhat, and the moonlight lit up the city below. You were sipping on the savory liquid, your mind deep within the dark corners of your mind. Your ex-husband, the fact that you could never have children - It was depressing. You were depressed, and you knew that. It was getting harder and harder to wake up each day. (Or night.) Your appetite was diminishing, and you were starting to lose sleep.
Hot tears simmered behind your eyes and didn’t even bother threatening to fall before they trickled down your face like Niagara Falls. You sniffled, rubbing your eyes and desperately trying to stop the flow of tears. You take a few shaky breaths before rubbing your eyes some more, looking up at the sky once more. There were a lot of bright stars littering the dark expanse. You were about to look away until your eyes saw something otherworldly.
Not one, but two shooting stars.
One was bigger than the other, but they shot across the sky - No, wait, they shot across each other. What? That was unheard of. You thought you may have been going crazy, but if you weren’t, you decided to set your wine glass down on the cafe table behind you. You quickly clasped your hands together, intertwining your fingers so tight you thought they might
break.
“God, please. I’ve prayed enough and I’ll pray some more. I wish for children of my own...”
You kept your eyes trained on the sky and held your breath. But it wasn’t like the Bible. The angel named Gabriel was going to come down with his silk white robes behind him and announce she was pregnant like how he did Mary.
Did that even happen? Well, if it did, then Mary was one lucky girl.
You unclasped your hands, sighing deeply. You grabbed your glass of wine, chugging the rest of it, and went back inside. You left the door cracked open so you could stay cool through the summer heat. Sitting the glass down on your nightstand and slipping off your house shoes, you lie down in the once shared king-sized bed. A sigh leaves you once more as you think about the missed heat of your ex. You reach over and grab a body pillow, which you cling to desperately every night. Nuzzling your face into it, you imagine he holds you once more, and your tears quickly start up once more.
Y/N sobs herself to bed, letting the pain and hurt of depression take hold of her once more. As you sleep, a text rings on your phone.
