If the only thing you think I do for you is watch shitty TV, then you might as well cut your losses.”
“Do you wish to break up, Xue Yang?” Zichen’s voice is so calm and quiet. Like he just asked if Xue Yang would like a glass of wine with his dinner. And—it works. All the swagger and false confidence ebbs away, deflating Xue Yang like releasing an overblown balloon.
“No.” Xue Yang’s voice barely gets past his own mouth. “I don’t.”
“What about you, Xingchen? Do you wish to break up?”
Yes. Every cell of his body screams it. At top volume. The only thing louder is his guilt and feeling of failure. He sighs to fight the rush of tears to his eyes. “I—I don’t know,” he says instead.
