A nurse rushed in, pushing a procedure tray in front of her. What would the surgeons need for a cric? Caitlyn had never seen one before. And, god, her surgical rotations… those had been a lifetime ago.
“Open the set, prep anti-septic and sterile drapes, get a blade, gauze, bougie, and… #6.0 endotracheal tube,” the words rattled off Caitlyn’s lips as she determined the most likely equipment that a surgeon would need, and which they stocked. The nurse scrambled to get the equipment from the crash cart nearby. The equipment was barely in place, dumped in aseptic technique onto the open set, when a doctor skidded into the room, barrelling in at full speed.

Summary
Sometimes the wounds that most desperately need healing are the ones that have already scarred over. Not forgotten, but easily ignored. At least until something unexpected sinks beneath the surface, aggravating the old injury and leaving her aching for days on end.
Only Vi doesn't know how to heal her battered heart, and she's terrified of asking the one person she trusts with it for help.
