Summary
Mike is standing in the middle of the room, wrapped tightly in Will’s thick winter comforter. Only his face and a few messy locks of dark hair peek out from the top, cheeks flushed a deep, uneven pink that spreads down his neck. His eyes are wide, glassy, darting between Will and the floor.
“Are you sick?” Will asks slowly.
Mike’s lips press into a thin line. His eyes scrunch at the corners, that familiar tell of embarrassment and maybe fear.
He exhales, shaky. “You have to promise not to be weirded out."
Will nods without hesitation. “I promise. Whatever it is, I swear it won’t change anything.”
The comforter falls away all at once, pooling around his feet in a heavy heap of navy wool.
And perched atop Mike’s dark curls—soft and messy as always—are a pair of dog ears. -

Summary
Mike suggests he and Will kiss for practice, completely unaware of how that could be an issue.
----
“And I was thinking,” Mike says slowly, “like, what if we, as in, you and I…” His gaze drops to Will’s comforter. “You know. If we maybe practicedkissingwitheachother. For our future girlfriends.”
Will can do nothing but stare at him.
Mike’s brain is truly and utterly baffling. If Will were a scientist, he’d probably want to pop it out of his pretty head and study it.
Mike rushes on, words tumbling over each other. “I mean, we’re gonna graduate soon, so it’d be pretty lame if when we start dating we're bad at kissing, you know?”
Will does not know. Because Will does not want to kiss girls.
The truth threatens to spill out of him, so he presses his lips into a thin line and nods again.
Mike’s eyes practically light up. “Does that mean you’ll do it?”
Will has never been good at saying no to Mike.

Summary
Will and Mike play truth or dare in the Wheeler's basement. What's some cheap wine and some making out between best friends, right?
----
“So if you don’t really, uh… think about what kind of girls you’re into,” Will starts, words slow and a little slurred together, “what do you, you know…”
Mike leans back further into the couch, head tipping against the cushions. Will watches as his curls fall away from his neck, exposing the line of his throat.
“What do I what?” Mike asks.
His words are just as clumsy, and the thought brings a pleasant warmth to Will’s stomach.
“What do you think about,” Will tries again, gesturing vaguely with his hands—hands that don’t feel entirely connected to the rest of him. “When you…” He trails off, face heating. He makes another gesture with his hands, one that he sees guys do in the hallways to gross each other out.
Mike’s mouth curves upward, slow and amused. His eyes are heavy-lidded, glassy in the lamplight.
“Jerk off?” he supplies, almost playfully.

Summary
The steps stop right outside his door.
There’s a soft, hesitant knock.
He doesn’t answer. There’s no point—she can’t come in anyway. He locked the door hours ago, after the bathroom. He remembers the click. He’s sure of it.
Then a voice slips through the door, warm and melting.
“Mike?”
It wasn’t his mom, or Nancy, or even his dad.
It’s Will.
Wet, hot shame pours over him in buckets, pooling in his stomach like a neglected pothole.
Will can’t see him like this. He can’t. The last time they saw each other—just a week ago—things hadn’t been nearly this bad.
“Go away, Will,” he says, his voice cracked and rough from disuse. It doesn’t sound like him at all. He hates that too.
He needs Will to leave. To just put the food down, or say whatever he came to say, and go.
Mike is sick, he’s so gross, he’s—
“Mike,” Will says quietly, “I’m going to come in, okay?” -

Summary
Will finds an old spellbook and decides to try out a spell with no name.
It backfires almost immediately.----
Will drops his hand from Mike’s shoulder, mouth opening to answer, but before he can speak, Mike’s own hand shoots out, clutching Will’s firmly.
Will freezes, mouth dropping open. If his face wasn’t already a little pink, it definitely was now.
“Don’t leave me, Will…” Mike murmurs, pulling himself closer against Will before he can even stand properly.
Will hears Lucas mutter something incomprehensible– something like, “Dude, what the fuck?”- but it barely registers. Mike’s entire weight is pressed against him, sucking up any coherent thoughts.
“M-Mike, what are you doing?” Will asks, voice tight, panic creeping in and heart hammering in his ears.
Mike doesn’t answer, he just buries his face into Will’s neck, sighing shakily.
Will’s mind races. What kind of spell could have done this? What had he actually just cast?
“Love spell,” He says into the air, unsure if anyone was still listening.
“I hit him with a fucking love spell.”

Summary
In which Mike follows Will to New York University for completely normal and emotionally healthy reasons, and then they try drinking together for the first time and Mike realizes pretty quickly that there were other latent feelings involved in his decision. Featuring truly Gen X levels of casual alcohol use, cranky hours at the Met, laundry in a haunted basement, a Psychedelic Furs concert, the gang reuniting for a party at Jonathan’s apartment, one scary incident reflecting the grittier realities of late 80s NYC, love confessions obviously, and rather a lot of hickeys. (And they were roommates!)

Summary
“We haven’t done this since middle school,” Will says, voice barely above a whisper.
“Huh,” Mike whispers back. “Yeah, guess not.”
A couple years ago, Mike read a National Geographic article about a phenomenon called the polar night. In the farthest north and south regions of the globe, there are weeks, sometimes months depending on how close you are to the poles, where the sun does not rise above the horizon, plunging the world into a perpetual nighttime. Living in such conditions, the article had explained, can affect one’s circadian rhythm, heighten issues with concentration and energy levels, and cause a spike in depressive symptoms among local populations. Some resort to using light therapy lamps to mimic the daylight.
It was only after the Byers moved away, all those years ago, that Mike began to understand what the prolonged absence of the sun can do to a person.
The Upside Down is gone, and everyone has made it out unscathed. In the aftermath of the not-so-end of the world, snowballs turn into avalanches. Sometimes it just takes time.

Summary
“Huh,” Mike says.
Huh.
Kissing your friends. For practice.
He’s just never considered it before, is all. He didn't know something like that was allowed.
And yes, Max said it's a thing girls do sometimes, but maybe—
Maybe two friends who just also happen to be boys—
Two best friends—
It's the Party's final summer together before college, and Mike Wheeler is prepared for exactly nothing to change.
Throw in a nursing home nemesis, a grandmother's deified childhood pet, and an escalating series of 'practice' sexual encounters with a best friend who makes his head spin, and there's a very tiny chance he may be getting in over his head.

Summary
“You should do it,” Will repeats, this time with a shrug. “She’s right, you could always stay with me if you needed to, but I really don’t think anything’ll happen. And your dad is cutting off your access to his card when we move out of Hawkins in September anyway, so you might as well use it for the fun stuff while you can, right? Like, really, what’s he gonna do? Cut you off a few months early?”
“The fun stuff,” Mike slowly repeats, feeling, suddenly, like he’s going to pass out. “Like buying lube?”
Will’s face flushes a bit as he looks away, shrugging again, this time a bit more clunky with it. “Like things that are fun,” he murmurs. “Which, I mean, lube is what we’re talking about right now, so… yeah.”
or: following their college graduations, the party decide to have one last hawkins summer before starting their "real" adult lives. mike and will start a game that pushes past every boundary they've maintained for years.
