Summary

When John Winchester needs a bodyguard for his 14-year-old son Sam, still weak and recovering from an illness, Dean seems like the perfect choice.

Sam finds himself stuck in a hole in the ground with a broken leg and accumulating blood loss. He has no way to call for help as his cellphone is either dead, broken or there’s no service (I haven’t decided, it works whichever way is chosen). He does think about praying to Castiel but decides not to because he’s just “the boy with the demon blood”. Castiel ends up saving him anyway and reassures him that he’s not forsaken.

Attempting to keep her children safe, Mary tells her husband that they can't hunt the way he wants to. Instead of accepting that, John hits the road - taking the newborn Sam with him - to find the creature that destroyed their home, leaving Dean to be raised Mary's way.
