It has been so… empty, without Wei Wuxian. Living day to day, week to week knowing more rumours are spreading of his evil ways, knowing the sects are increasingly fearful, slavering for blood as they plot his demise. He has lived with fear in his mouth for longer than he knows, waiting to hear that Yiling has been invaded, trampled, wiped out. That Wei Wuxian’s bright light is gone, extinguished.
That the man who holds his heart in a strangle-hold, so tight it feels smothering sometimes, has died for his principles in the face of Lan Wangji’s intransience.
“I want you to come back with me,” he says.
Or: When the sects agree to invite the Yiling Laozu back into the cultivation world to raise those who die before their time, Lan Wangji volunteers to be the one to mind him.

The slow rise of Wei Ying’s head is agonizing. It speaks to dullness, or perhaps to exhaustion – things Lan Wangji has never associated with Wei Ying who is colour and vibrancy and life, who blazes bright as the sun and raises heat with his smile. And that is irritating and it is unharmonious but like a creeping vine Wei Ying has begun to work his way into Lan Wangji’s life, bringing cuts and bruises and flowers and fruit. It is unexpectedly painful, to see him diminished.

Wei Wuxian lets himself tilt, slowly falling to the side until Lan Wangji has no choice but to catch him and hold him, Wei Wuxian’s head against his shoulder. It feels nice. Settled. Lan Wangji is warmth wrapped in blue and white silk; he smells of sandalwood and musk. Wei Wuxian closes his eyes, lashes sweeping against Lan Wangji’s neck; he feels him draw in a breath and straighten his spine. As though Wei Wuxian were an indulgence his endless Gusu Lan rules don’t allow for.
Or: Even a head wound and a half-crushed throat can't keep a good tease down. Until, in fact, they can.

Every part of him, every plane and corner makes Lan Wangji’s heart ache. Even wordless, unconscious, his mere presence is a hook in his stomach, tugging tightly.
Lan Yufei clears his throat. “Hanguang-jun is well-meaning and a model of responsibility, however sick nursing is beneath him. Wei-gongzi will be well cared-for here, without a –”
“Lan-daifu,” says Lan Wangji, calmly but with absolutely no room for negotiation. “I will tend to Wei Ying. Sick nursing is neither shameful, not beneath me.”

They’ve just gotten his home back! Sure, Four Seasons Manor could use some cleaning up, A-Xu could use some livelihood in it to keep those ghosts out of his eyes, but they’re here. Nothing could possibly be wrong, right?
It doesn’t matter. Wen Kexing won’t be getting back to sleep. He’ll go check on A-Xu. He’ll say he’s worried about the Seven Nails giving him trouble, and he’ll flirt shamelessly, and he’ll go back to bed."Spoiler, he doesn't get to go back to bed because Zhou Zishu is off in the woods trying to die in the quiet of a lightning-hollow tree.

“Wait. Let me.” Wen Kexing tilted his palm and directed his qi into Zhou Zishu’s body—at least, that was his intention, but instead of the warm flow of energy outward, his energy reversed like water falling back on itself in a swinging pail and a shockwave of pain ran from his chest to his back, almost as if Ye Baiyi hit him again right there. Blood flooded his throat and he coughed, sending it splattering all over the floor.
“Ahh. Aah? What the hell?”
For a second, Zhou Zishu looked just as dumb-struck as he was himself, but then he grasped Wen Kexing’s wrist and felt his pulse. “Don’t try to transfer your qi or refocus it,” he said. “He used the Hand of Sealing Twelve Paths on you. He did the same to me.”

Zhou Zishu's had both the worst day of his life and the best. Good things: he permanently incapacitated the Prince of Jin, making it abundantly clear he was not the soulmate the Prince was looking for, his sect was resurrected and Wen Kexing in full Master of Ghost Valley mode went down on his knees before him swearing fealty as his shidi in front of the entire Jianghu. Bad things: apart from being riddled with nails, he's been tortured and now also has two big holes in his torso. Luckily, things seem to be looking up now.

Lee Haeryun seemed to constantly surprise him.
“But I am asking now,” she insisted, staring into his eyes and ceasing any movement. Waiting for his decision. It was clear to Junmo that no matter how she pounced on him like a black jaguar before, and jokingly threatened him, she was deadly serious about this. He knew instinctively that if he said no, Haeryun would stop this immediately and they wouldn’t go further.
Junmo looked away.
He should’ve wanted that. For reasons.
But he didn’t.
He sighed. Closed his eyes, swallowed down the guilt-woven ball lodged into his throat and nodded. Resigned himself to the glaring fact that he was a cheating asshole.
Or, what we all wanted in Episode 8 to happen.
