The Valley Master’s gaze was so serious that for half a moment Zhou Zishu felt almost guilty to be deceiving him. But behind his eyes, there was a new glint—the wolf or the hunter, it was hard to tell which.

Wen Kexing gave a startled laugh, tipping his head back to expose a long, bare throat. When he looked back at Zhou Zishu, his eyes still bore the same dangerous shine.
“You don’t need to die to become a ghost,” he said.

Zhou Zishu swirls the bourbon around in his glass, liquid ambers refracting the light as he gazes down at his love, expression darkening. The firelight hues cast a heavenly glow that makes Wen Kexing look angelic, regal, his long black hair like the spill of ink down his back.
Dark eyes trace pale skin, devouring every inch of unsuspecting flesh. Zhou Zishu watches Wen Kexing flush prettily, the Kunze’s eyes flitter away beneath his crushing stare.

Second, that there is an assassin at the party.
There should not, for all intents and purposes, be an assassin at this party, unless the assassin is Zhou Zishu, and she is most definitely not the one responsible for the cleverly hidden, masterfully concocted dose of midazolam delivered to a room full of the country’s richest, most powerful men.

Summary
Prince Jin declares war on the Kingdom of Fan, seeking to rewrite his destiny and become the emperor who once again might rule over the now 3 separate kingdoms.
Wen Kexing, a former subject of the Kingdom of Jin, marches into war for Princess Fan and encounters not only the last remaining pieces of his former self and past, but also the magical and godly foundations of their world, which have become only tales and stories over time.
He encounters Zhou Zishu, one of the last fragments from his past, but the other is not the young man he remembers any longer. More than 10 years have passed and both Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing have been changed by time and the different paths their lives took. Fate has now brough them together again, but what once bound them together seems to be shattered completely.

Ye Baiyi finally clears his throat and speaks again. “What happened? After... ”
“After you left me by letter, with only the clothes on my back, a fat purse and two children in my belly?” Xie’er asks, his tone facetious. Ye Baiyi nods, a fleeting look of shame crossing his face as his gaze drifts to Xie’er’s now-slim waist. Xie’er wonders if Ye Baiyi would have wanted him, still, when he was thick with child, puffed out like waterlogged rice. Would he have been considerate or attentive to those intimate comforts Xie’er had wished for back then, had longed for? All those things he had mourned as out of his reach, because he’d thought Ye Baiyi already gone to his next life - Xie’er’s desires apparently wasted not on a dead man, but only a purposefully absent one.
“I walked,” he tells him, because it’s true. “I walked and walked until my feet bled and I had to rest. I walked to get as far away from Changming as I thought possible, and then found myself at the foot of this cursed mountain again.”

One night on the road, Zhou Zishu announces that he is going out to a brothel and promptly vanishes without a trace. Wen Kexing is, of course, devastated. When Zhou Zishu returns an hour later, having failed to accomplish his task—that being, to fuck a certain somebody out of his system and avoid complicating his life further—Wen Kexing is there to console him as usual. The two of them eventually settle on a much more satisfactory way to address Zhou Zishu's problem.
