That is, he never really left his room in the garage in general, wanting to be where he was used to rather than a world with endless possibilities.
In this college AU story, several characters with traumatic pasts come together to try and make one, big, happy family. They sort of succeed in a way, emphasis on sort of - All unlikely friends, mourning the loss of something dear to them, trying to move on. It doesn't help that another death is right around the corner, and very few people truly know except for perhaps Shadow.

Hotchner turned back around. “What’s that?”
“You said some people grow up to become killers.” The man’s eyes were empty and his expression vacant.
Aaron nodded slightly, his gaze turning downwards. “And some people grow up to catch them.”
