Summary
“Hello, Eddie.” Echo greets the guest and it makes Eddie smile a little and greets him back. There was a beat of silence. And because Buck still hasn’t answered Eddie, he turns to the parrot.
“Echo, do you want to tell me, what’s going on with Buck?” Eddie jokes. Buck knows Eddie is joking. But he knows what the parrot will do, but his body is frozen in place, he can’t stop what’s about to come out of the parrot’s beak.
“Tommy is right.” Echo says and Eddie’s eyes go wide. Then he gives Buck a quick look, before following up on the comment the parrot made.
“Tell me more, Echo.”
OR: After a zoo fire, Buck takes in two parrots, temporarily, of course. Just a few hours later he realizes that he’s in love with Eddie. What could go wrong?

“Exactly,” Karen jumped in. “All four of us are going through a lot right now. It’s hard to miss children, especially when you know they’re safe and okay, just not with you.”
“Which is why you wanted the four of us to hang out more?” It was obvious now, to Eddie. He felt a little guilty about it, but he had almost forgotten that Hen and Karen were also missing a child. It was so easy to be wrapped up into just thinking about Chris, Chris, Chris, that the concept that anyone else might also be able to understand what he was going through had completely escaped him.
“Right!” Karen sounded pleased. “I thought if you guys were anything like the two of us, you’re feeling unmotivated, and maybe spending a lot more time lazing around and being sad than you normally would.”
“Lots more to be sad about than usual,” Eddie said slowly.
“Exactly. And I thought that, maybe, the four of us could hold each other accountable. Spend time together once a week and go out and do something.”

Summary
When Eddie told Buck that he would become Chris’s legal guardian if something happened to him, they’d both assumed that it was just as a precaution.
Eddie is called in to a short military mission, Buck steps into his role as Chris's guardian. It was only supposed to be two weeks and Eddie's assignment was only to identify a person on sight. It shouldn't have been dangerous. Eddie should have been okay.
So why did a uniformed officer show up with a box and a flag on Eddie's doorstep?

Summary
Eddie loves that Buck does that, even if they’re not together or on the same shift. He still includes him. Especially now, after Bucks been hurt and he’s getting ready to go get his certification again. They’ll be together and Eddie won’t have to worry about missing anything and he’ll get to see his husband's face at work again. He misses both of them turning around when Diaz is called more than he’d like to admit.
But his day moves swiftly, nothing major occurring.
Until they get the siren for a tsunami hitting the pier and Eddie's heart feels like it’s going to come up out of his mouth. Nausea makes it hard to breathe, his vision blurs and he hears Chimney calling his name, but he doesn’t at the same time. It sounds so far away, everything seems so far away.

“Where did all of the water go?” He hears to his left, a woman standing and leaning over the railing, and he looks at her, she’s got her gaze focused on the water. But when Buck turns around, the water is actually gone.
He grabs Chris, picking him up, no, it’s not gone, it’s shifted. Building together in the distance as the fish left behind flaps on the ground. His eyes widen, and fear settles deep in his chest. He can feel it, pounding his heart against his ribcage.

Puffs of wheezing air are in his ear, pained breaths even though Buck is barely even coherent. He tries to keep him stable and steady until he has to lay him on the gurney. Listening as his husband breathes harshly through the pain that must be radiating through his body.
Eddie gets in the ambulance without looking back, joining Chimney as he continues to monitor Buck with Hen drives. He doesn’t even ask if he can go, he doesn’t care.
Eddie isn’t leaving Bucks side.

The truck exploded, fear coursed through him as he was thrown from it. Landing and feeling the impact on the street as his body skidded into the ground. He could barely hear anything, he could barely see. Smoke was everywhere and panic was everywhere, blearily he could see people running around. Eyes blinking as his face felt cold against the pavement.

“What do you think about going to couples therapy?” He questions and Buck whips his body around, still stirring the noodles in a pan.
“Is there something wrong between us?” And Eddie cringes, that probably wasn’t the best way to bring it up.
“No bello, no I’m sorry that’s not what I meant.” And it’s settling when Buck deflates, believing him immediately. “I meant like, going together, it might make it easier?”
Buck is silent for a moment, not long enough to be a concern and Eddie can wait. Chris is demanding more bananas anyways. Even though most of it is all over his face.
“I’d like that.” Buck finally murmurs when the sauce for the noodles is creating a pleasant aroma throughout their kitchen.
Or Eddie recovers and Buck loses Devon, they go to therapy about it and Bucks past is brought to light.

And there was a man sitting next to him with the prettiest eyes he's ever seen and the brightest smile.

“Ready to marry me?” Buck asks in front of them all, they’re standing in front of the judge and the toy that Chris is playing with makes a tune around them.
