Icarus was able to accept the role of Quixus despite it not being ideal. They missed their brother, best friend, everyone. They wanted to meet Vaeh, Calypso, Argo, Terry, Cari, Kyr, and all the new pets. They wanted to see their mom again. They wanted to see Soul, Malitae, and Momboo.
They wanted to see Venear Atlan, the person they could only wish for, the person they longed for, the person they wished would become their one true love.
They wanted their family again.
So when it was time to resign as Quixus they didn't do what Midas did and went... home

I know on the discord it says no diagnosing characters and I want to say that in these chapters I will not be doing that if I accidentally do please tell and i'll change it or explain it. Trigger Warning! Implied suicide
Icarus was dying, they knew that.
After killing their father, they sat on the Quixus beach, watching the waves crash against the shoreline. Paper was covering their lap and the surface around them, a pot of ink a few inches away from them with a quill in their hand. They sealed the pieces of paper away in the envelope, pocketing them all in one of their inner jacket pockets.
They flew to the Cave of Rebirth (They considered it the Cave of Death), the pocket dimension was gone, and their mother was nowhere to be seen. They assumed Rae had already gotten her and brought her to his house.
They place the letters on the smoothed stone before standing in the crater, sword in hand.
And they plunged it into the gaping hole in their stomach, their limp body falling to the floor.

Rune sacrificed himself to save the ones he loved, he knew what would happen but the success would be greater than the loss.
Some may disagree.
And it was at that moment that Quixus knew they had to save him. Saving Marcel was too selfish, sure, Icarus themself didn't love Marcel but Ash did and they thought it was too close.
So they connected to Ash, having a small conversation in a blip of time.
Ash agreed to help, having lost pretty much everyone they ever loved.
So Ash went to the obelisk and swapped places with Rune, the technicalities don't matter in the summary as they are far too complicated.
Rune comes back, Vast and Atlas have their boyfriend, Ava, and Slyph have their brother.
But Rune isn't happy, Rune didn't want Ash to take his place, and now Rune feels an overwhelming sense of guilt and grief over his friend.

Ash was running from the monster, their wings weak and damaged so they couldn't fly.
They tripped over a root, quickly turning around only to be shot in the arm by a curse from a cursed skeleton.
They screamed, feeling the poison fill their bloodstream before they ripped the arrow out of their arm, snapping it in half.
The skeleton is suddenly attacked with a sword and it falls to the ground, Draeke standing behind it, eyes wide.
Red blood mixed with black as it dripped down Ash's arm and stained the grass.
They both knew what was coming, no one survived the curse, and people gave up on a cure.
They were going to die
