“Roy didn’t know a whole lot of things about the world, but he knew that people left. They came around for days, weeks, months, even years, and they brought glimpses of lives that could never have been Roy’s, and then they packed it all up and left.
It wasn’t a bad thing, necessarily; it just was.
Roy’s problem was that he was a fool. If Dick were there, he’d find a nicer way to word it – idealist, romantic, some bullshit like that – but really, Roy was foolish. He knew the rules, he knew how things were going to end, and he let himself hope every damn time.

Summary
By the time the sign-in sheet makes it to their row, class has begun. Peter’s attention begrudgingly shifting away from Harry and towards the screen at the front. He’s halfway through a sentence when Harry is sliding the sheet on to his notebook. Almost blindly he scribbles his name in, about to pass it on when his eye catches something on the line above.
Harry’s name is directly above his. In place of where his surname should be is a stain that Peter wants to erase but can’t. It’s written there in ink.Harry Osborn.

Summary
But the world has changed in the course of only a few blinks. At least, it must have changed. The world around Harry is the same, and yet his eyes don’t see the same, like a graphics card in the computer of his brain has fried, leaving him able to notice each individual piece and shape of what surrounds him. It all feels detached from him. Is any of it real? He can see the individual lines and shapes of everything around him, a startling realization that leaves him feeling like a rope that tethered Harry to the world is broken.
