Summary
Michaela looks at her and sighs.
“It’s incredible how stubborn you are. I think you might be the most stubborn member of your family, and that’s saying something.”
Francesca tightens her grip on the wheel.
“Well, forgive my stubbornness. But there’s nothing you can say or do that will make me change my mind. We will be arriving at Kilmartin tonight.”
Michaela scoffs.
“You really think I couldn’t get you to pull over if I tried?”
“You are trying. You have been for the last fifteen minutes.”
Michaela shifts and pulls both of her legs up into her seat, angling her body towards Francesca.
“You think I can’t try harder?”
-- or --
Michaela employs several techniques to convince Francesca to pull over at a hotel for the night.

Summary
Third lap. This was when Francesca usually pushed hardest. She felt Michaela's sharp intake of breath beside her.
“So how different is this experience compared to the artist life?”
“Very, I’m sure you know more about being an artist than I do about being a pilot.”
“Why would you think that?” Francesca inquired. It was true, she'd been playing the piano for years, composing and performing in small venues anytime she had the chance.
“Well—it’s just that, the piano and ….”
“Oh my god,” Francesca said, cutting her off. “You’re a fan, aren’t you? A lot of people who watch the sport have no clue that I play the piano.”
“Don’t look so smug, Bridgerton,” Michaela muttered.
“You wouldn’t dream of it, Stirling.”
“So, am I your favorite driver or something?” Francesca said teasing.
The silence that followed was telling. “Oh my god, I am!” Francesca said, almost laughing now.
“I didn’t say that,”
“Didn’t have to.” Francesca glanced over and smirked at Michaela’s flushed face.

Summary
Francesca has spent her life walking a perfectly straight line. As her university's youngest literature professor, she hides behind academic theory. But when a rare impulse leads to a breathless, anonymous one-night stand, her structured world begins to crack.
She assumes her secret is safe—until she walks into her 9:00 AM seminar on the first day of term and finds that the very woman from the night before is her student.
Michaela is everything Francesca is not: unfiltered, unapologetic, and dangerous to Francesca's carefully guarded boundaries.
From the moment she comes to terms with her professor on the podium, the lecture hall becomes a battleground of double meanings, stolen glances, and agonizing proximity. Hidden beneath their sharp academic debates lies a consuming passion.
Caught between strict discipline and an "unlawful longing," Francesca must decide whether to protect her hard-earned career or give in to a love that might finally teach her how to truly live.
Or: Francesca can survive falling for her student. Telling the Bridgertons she's fallen for a woman? That's a different story.
