He answered with no preface, no pretense, just the bare facts. “I'm at the hospital with Shane. He wasn't waking up for me.”
The line was quiet for a bit, almost long enough for Hayden to start thinking she'd put the phone down. When she spoke, her tone was serious.
“What do you mean, not waking up?”
“I got to Drapeau's place and tried to wake him up to get him in the car, but he wouldn't wake up. It was like he couldn't. And then,” he trailed off, unsure what to even say about what he found to his wife.
“And then what?”
He took a deep breath, reluctant to say it out loud, but he had to tell her. “I think something bad happened to him, Jacks. Like, really bad.”

“Ilya, what are we gonna do?” Shane says.
Ilya finishes whatever he has been doing on his phone, and tosses it gently to the bed beside him. He crosses the room to Shane, stands in front of him, squeezes into his shoulders with his big hands, rubbing them like he means to warm them up.
“Looks like we will have a little vacation,” he says, with a big obnoxious grin.
Boston and Montreal are sent to Paris to play against each other in an exhibition series in January 2017. Ilya and Shane decide to stay in Paris for one more night. Just one more night, so they can talk. Maybe finally understand each other.
They aren't expecting a volcano to erupt in Iceland and close all the airspace in Europe, leaving them stranded there. Together.

Turning to look at Clay, his big brown eyes twinkled under the planetarium’s synthetic light. Clay wondered how much of it was the false stars above them and how much of it was just him.
“I’m George, by the way. But to the kids,” he waved a hand around the room full of students, “I’m Mr. McCaughrean.”
It would be wrong for Clay to say he'd lost the only thing that matters to him—he still had his kids. But it's hard when he sees the love of his life in everything those kids do, it's hard when all the other things he loved feel empty without his husband.

Summary
The speed of the smile that spreads across his lips is honestly pathetic, the thought that George can cause it from a few frustrated words even more so. But when George reaches behind him to lift Dream’s arm and wrap it around himself, Dream knows he’s perfectly happy with being pathetic if it means he can hold George like this.
