Mind stifled a derisive scoff. Admittedly, it didn’t sound like the… worst possible outcome. It would be easier to get the other to do what it said if they were ‘friends’- and he needed to do what it said if it was going to keep their Whole well.

Summary
Natsuki huffs, which coaxes a laugh out of Sayori. Admittedly, they’d been hoping for that reaction. Now placated, Sayori goes ahead and follows along with Natsuki’s instructions, measuring out flour, cocoa powder, two different kinds of sugar, and salt. After that are the chocolate chips. Natsuki picks up the bag and starts to hand it over, then suddenly pulls it away.
Her eyes narrow. “We’re gonna eat these when they’re in the brownies,” she says, a suspicious little frown on her face. “You understand, Sayori? When they are baked, inside of the brownies.”
“Right!” Sayori nods quickly. “I got it!”
Still squinting, Natsuki passes over the chocolate chip bag. She’s right to be suspicious, because as soon as Sayori has measured and poured the right amount of chocolate chips, they reach in with their fingers and dig out a handful.

“So you’re the killer I’ve been tracking? I suppose you’re going to kill me now. I’ve been quite impressed with you so far, you know. You really leave no evidence. That kind of meticulousness is rare for a serial killer… usually they get sloppy after the first few. Or start out sloppy and only get that far from being blood thirsty. I don’t think you’re that kind of killer, though.”
She’s rambling. She can’t help it. Sayaka always feels a bit manic when she’s on the edge of a breakthrough, and now is no different; even with her life in danger, Sayaka’s eyes are wide, alight with interest. So much for seeming nervous.
To her surprise, after shifting again, a voice speaks in Japanese from behind her. “Well, I’m no amateur. You’ve probably guessed that already, though, if you could figure out who I am from just the knife.”
A woman’s voice. A young woman’s voice, even—maybe even Sayaka’s age, and she speaks with no accent. Sayaka turns her head as much as she can afford in this position. She can’t see much, but blonde waves flash in her peripheral. Interesting.

There's no real telling how you and your soulmate will be linked. Might be you share a birthmark, or something like that. That's pretty common. I used to tell people I didn't have a soulmate because it wasn't obvious how I was linked to one, just for funsies.
I don't really do that, anymore.
