Atsumu lights up at his answer, “ya do?!” he hands the tie to the man, not at all hoping he’d accept, because hey it’s a street interview, people can be shitty. Especially people with masks because they think their identity is concealed.
So imagine the surge of happiness in his face when the older man said, “turn around, face the other way.” without so much an inflection in his voice. Like he’s used to this stuff.
“Yes sir.” Atsumu oblige immediately and turn his back to the man.
When the older man wraps his hands on his neck, Atsumu turns bright red and stutters “Oh wow, whoa, we’re gettin’ right into it.”
The man didn’t entertain him with an answer.

Fast forward to the future where every uncertainties answered and wishes granted, Kiyoomi will sit across from Wakatoshi who's sipping his half-cold coffee. They will be watching the tides as the sun drags itself down. Atsumu will be running barefoot chasing Oikawa with a scowl because for some reason they were bestfriends. Sometimes, on good days, but bestfriends nonetheless.
Of course, Kiyoomi thinks, insufferable birds of annoying feathers flock together.

It’s soft. Not casual, not careful — just honest.
Osamu huffs out a laugh that’s more breath than humor, like the weight of the question sinks into his chest before he can stop it. It’s the sound of someone who’s been trying not to want something for a long, long time, but who has been defeated anyway.
He doesn’t answer right away. Just stares out into the dark alley, jaw clenched like he’s chewing on glass.
Finally, when Osamu speaks, his voice is rough with resignation.
“Yeah.” He doesn’t look at Suna when he answers. “Yeah, Rin. I would.” A beat. “And I think that’s exactly our problem.”

And down comes the ball, landing directly into his stomach and pushing the air from his lungs. “What?” he asks weakly, tossing the ball to the side. “Since when?”
“Since he asked me,” Kiyoomi says, still not bothering to look over at Atsumu. “Last week.”or: Triwizard challenger Atsumu faces the hardest challenge of all - having to ask someone to the Yule Ball after his usual date decides to go with his competition, Ushijima.
