An alternate take on the aftermath of the decapitation: After waking up first, Lestat ditches Gabriella, the band, and the concert to wait by Louis's bedside until he heals.

Lestat emerges from a dramatic plume of smoke, dressed in a glittering white jumpsuit. Crystals line the flared bottoms, fanning out around chunky silver platform boots. The crowd around him only grows louder, the lighting hitting Lestat's hair just right, a shining blond halo. The sole pop of color against his pale skin is a red choker that shimmers at his throat, gems like blood droplets pooling in his clavicle.
And like clockwork, Lestat's eyes are on Louis. Sound blots out for just a moment, contained only to where their gazes meet, Lestat's lips parted around a fanged smile. Louis can't help but grin back, muted but fond. Ridiculously, wholly fond. They are the only two people in the room. They always are when they're together—very little else seems to matter.
(Or, Louis attends one of Lestat's concerts. He spends a lot more time in his dressing room.)

Summary
Lestat is argumentative with the staff, he's giving Daniel absolute Hell, and he's prone to disappearing for hours at a time when he is supposed to be recording or rehearsing. He is self-destructing, a violent nosedive back into his worst behavior, and all of it is being filmed for the world to see.
Or, at least, that is what Louis had heard from Daniel's colorful recounting that he stubbornly beamed straight into his head.
(Or, a bad filming session brings back horrible memories for Lestat. Louis is left to pick up the pieces.)

“Can we sleep in the bed?” Louis offers, flippant, his voice quiet between them.
“I thought you decided that you liked the coffin,” Lestat murmurs and Louis can feel the movement of his lips where his thumb rests at the corner of his mouth, the whispers of his breath, quiet and calm now.
“It’s not the coffin,” Louis reiterates. He follows the shape of Lestat's bottom lip, watching the naked openness of his face crack and shift, violet eyes beneath the sweeping curve of his lashes. “Sleep with me, tonight?”
Lestat swallows thickly, blinking slowly like a very pleased, very dazed cat. “Yes, Louis.”
Or, Lestat and Louis make it home after the bench.

Summary
Louis’ hand is cold when Lestat holds it, his face like ice when Lestat touches his jaw. His heart hammers against his ribs.
Instinct kicks in.
Lestat slits his wrist with a sharp nail, bringing it to Louis’ unmoving, beautiful lips, letting blood spill over his chin like a cascade.
“What are you doing?!” Gabriella again. Her voice irritates him.
“He needs my blood,” Lestat answers, not taking his eyes away from Louis’ still figure.
“What? You’re not well enough to do this, Lestat!” Cookie’s voice now. “You lost a lot of blood, they’re giving him blood already, there’s no need—”
“He needs mine!” He shouts, losing all composure, only then feeling the tears angrily stream down his face. He thinks of Louis’ reaction to the taste of his blood at the bar, the first time that century. His hollowed cheeks, eyes rolling to the back of his skull. Lestat wants to fall to his knees and weep. “I know it, he needs mine. It’ll help him! Just… Just let me do this…”

"Yeah, and that's the problem," Louis begins. "You don't take it seriously. What did you expect me to do, laugh at your abuse?"
His stomach drops. God, how he hates that word. That word, and the i word, and the r word that he won't even touch. They follow him everywhere, they linger in his peripheral, they ring in his head like a cymbal. They get caught behind his tongue when he tries whispering them to himself in the mirror alone.
After Gabriella leaves, Louis helps Lestat come to terms with what happened to him.

But it wasn’t true. He loved Lestat so much he sometimes felt like the weight of it crushed him. He could hardly breathe, sometimes, blindsided by his love for Lestat, could feel it swirling inside of him, trying to make its way out, ready to split his skin open with how powerful it was. Louis hadn’t always been honest about it but it had always been true nevertheless.
or, Louis doesn't tell Lestat he loves him enough. He decides to change that.
