"What the fuck do you think you're doing? It's twelve in the morning, it's like twenty eight degrees outside, it's snowing! Why are you—" she pauses to take a breath and fully intends to continue until she looks down and sees Richie, eyes soft behind her glasses, looking at her in a way she doesn't completely understand. She's still lying on the floor, having migrated to lying on her back. This isn't what makes her pause, though.
"Are you wearing fucking jorts?!"
(Or in which Richie pays Eddie a surprise visit through her window.)

“Listen,” Eddie says, voice low. He steps closer, until his bare toes align with the edge of a tile. Richie swallows. Blinks. Looks back up. “I don’t mind.”
For a moment, Richie can’t possibly fathom what he means. Doesn’t mind what? Doesn’t mind that there’s a picture of him kissing the weird man who he killed a clown with at the top of everybody’s trending page? Doesn’t mind the word boyfriend tossed at him like it’s something that could possibly fit?
“What,” Richie rasps, throat dry, words toneless.
It would be funny, the way Eddie’s looking at him, if Richie weren’t so damn terrified. “Like, I’ll do it,” Eddie says. There is acute discomfort radiating off of all his sharp points. “Be your boyfriend or whatever.”

Or: Eddie kisses Richie. The world thinks they're dating, but they're not. Eddie thinks Richie isn't in love with him, but he is. Also, a movie premiere.

Summary
Richie was not soft, or sweet. He didn’t wear golden ankle bracelets that flashed in the sun when he walked. But he was brave, and he was kind, beneath all his bullshit. He was funny as hell when he wasn’t trying too hard (although Eddie would never admit it). He didn’t make Eddie feel like he was floating on a bed of fuzzy feelings, or whatever.
He made Eddie feel alive, like a spark that just needed to be lit into a flame. He made Eddie want to be more like him — brave, and brash, and not giving a fuck what anyone thinks. He was absolutely infuriating, but in the best way.
And he gave Eddie those goddamn butterflies every time.
So, in essence, that was The Richie Problem.
