Summary
"Mark and William had been best friends since elementary school, when they discovered they liked the same comic book series and would sit together at recess reading them instead of playing with the other kids. And their friendship only grew stronger as the years went on.
One day in eighth grade, while walking home from school, William told Mark that he was gay. At first, Mark was stunned—not because he had a problem with it, but because he had never met a gay person before. And now, the first one he ever met was his best friend. Well, gay people must be cool if William is one, he thought. Mark looked at William and shrugged. “Awesome!”
From then on, the two were inseparable—playing video games at each other’s houses every day after finishing their homework, swimming in the town creek during the summer, and talking late into the night during their weekly sleepovers. It was during these times that they got to know each other so well, they believed they knew all of each other’s secrets."
