His mum held Nathaniel down as she let the chemicals soak into his eyes.
It burned, different to how his shoulder did when father pressed the iron to it years ago. His shoulder had burnt with a searing heat that he could not escape; bright and all encompassing. Afterwards it felt like pulsing coals against his skin; a never-ending throb of burning pain that pulled and demanded his attention. Nathaniel had grown used to pain over the years. He was able to keep quiet when his father or one of his friends put their blades to his skin. Nathaniel had gotten used to preparing himself for pain whenever he saw his father or Lola in particular.
Maybe that was why the pain felt so much worse this time.

“Neil,” Andrew says through the darkness. His voice is ragged and exhausted. It’s the closest thing Neil has ever heard him utter to the word please.
It’s this that forces Neil to bow and rest his forehead against his knees. He exhales, unable to believe what he’s about to agree to.
“Alright,” he says eventually. His voice is hoarse from gasping. “I’ll do it.”
Andrew’s grip on the back of his neck tightens. “Do what?”
“Dobson. I’ll go and see her,” he says, looking up.Neil goes to therapy.

“Fine,” Allison sighed, shifting around in her purse and grabbing out her sunglasses, “I guess our deal was just that I got to dress you for banquets, not that you had to come with while shopping. Say goodbye to your veto power though, you’ll just have to be okay with what I get you.”
Neil swallowed, obviously biting back a response. Andrew knew Neil wouldn’t say anything. They had made a deal, Neil wasn’t allowed to argue because of his own mistake. A part of Andrew wanted to just let it happen. It was Neil’s own fault. The other part of him felt the need to stand guard. He could rationalize it by thinking that he didn’t want Allison getting Neil something he hated, but honestly, Andrew didn’t really care. By nature of the event, she had to put Neil in something formal, so the odds of her getting something too revealing were next to none. If Allison made Neil muscle though a night of wearing a bold statement piece that wouldn’t be in fashion until next year, Andrew didn’t give a fuck.
The real issue was that Andrew didn’t like people messing with his things.
